I chose this project because it connects closely to my personal experience volunteering with an orphanage and working with children who have experienced loss, separation, or major life changes. Through that experience, I saw how important it is for children to feel heard and understood, especially when it comes to their own stories and identities. Traditional life-story books are often created by adults, such as social workers or caretakers, and while they are meant to help children make sense of their past, they may not always reflect how the child remembers or feels about their experiences. This project stood out to me because it focuses on giving children more control over how their stories are told.
I am looking forward to learning how technology can be used to support emotional expression and memory in a more child-centered way. I am also interested in how audio-based storytelling can allow children to communicate naturally without relying only on written records. I think one of the most challenging aspects of this project will be addressing privacy and ethical concerns, since the system would involve sensitive personal information and vulnerable users. Designing something that is both empowering and secure will require careful thought about data access and adult involvement. Another challenge may be ensuring the system is usable for children of different ages and abilities. Overall, this project excites me because it combines my interest in human-centered design with my passion for working with children, and it shows how technology can be used to support identity, memory, and emotional well-being.
Imran's Reflection
The reason I have chosen this project is because I always have a memory box when I was young and I kept things that are sentimental to me. Coming across the idea of trove, I realized the memory box helped me a lot in my childhood and reverse engineering a similar item would be a personal learning experience for me. When a memory box has helped me gather my cherish memories in a box and allows me to revisit them and allow me to reminiscence of the things I love and care. An item that combines the memory box and a life-story book which is an item required by UK law is the trove. The trove form what I have read among others is the most personal project for me.
Aside from my personal experience, when I read the other project I compare what social impact it has and what is dear to me. When I look at the FM radio, it also being a touch of nostalgia as my country Myanmar, we heavily used radio till now and FM radio is something I am used to. However, I disagreed with the idea of FM radio as a way to play sonic mementos because FM radio is an application of explorations and wavelength. I would personally preferred a phonograph instead of a FM radio. With this disagreement, I also looked into chronotape and I do not have an interest in family tree that deeply to consider the project. However, a patina engraver is interesting, modern and fashionable. But I feel like patina engraver's novelty is something I don't want as I think patina engraver is a novelty of outcome because what the innovators expect is the motivation coming from using the patina engraver whereas a trove is a novelty of a new idea. For the technology heirlooms, they fedd under the same category as chronotape for technology I am not accustomed to. With these various reasons I have chosen the trove as my choice of project.
