Mass Spec Core

The Mass Spectrometry Core within the Gordon Center is equipped with a Mass Spectrometry Facility which is staffed by a Ph.D. level scientist and an assistant. This research facility provides a full range of analytical services and provides routine mass analyses of a wide range of organic and biological molecules including synthetic organic molecules, polymers, peptide and proteins, and nucleotides. Additionally, the Mass Spectrometry Core remains available for collaborations with principal investigators in solving research problems.

Several different types of mass spectrometers are available for services depending upon your needs. These include a Waters ACQUITY QDa mass detector combined with photodiode array (PDA), NIR fluorescence using a fluorescence detector (FLD), and evaporative light scatter detection (ELSD). In addition, Bruker Aurora M90 ICP-MS and Bruker UltraFlex III MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry are available for further analyses of chemicals. The Facility also routinely conducts exact mass and elemental composition determination, tandem (MS/MS) experiments, and HPLC separations with MS detection as requested by researchers. For protein and biomaterials analyses, gel filtration chromatography (GFC) is performed on an AKTA Prime pump system (GE Healthcare) equipped with 2 flow cells (Starna Cells) and online absorbance and fluorescence spectrophotometers (Ocean Optics).

We are a core resource in biological mass spectrometry offering state-of-the-art platforms for mass spectrometry imaging. Our resources include support for study design, sample preparation, data acquisition, informatics, interpretation and publication assistance. We accept samples from anywhere in the world and look forward to helping you and advancing your research to the next level.
