Dr. Atsushi Yamashita
Instructor in Radiology, Mass General Hospital and Harvard Medical School
Ph.D. Materials Science, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), 2006
B.Sc. Department of Biosciences, Teikyo University of Science & Technology, 1999
During his Ph.D., Dr. Yamashita studied supramolecular-based gene carrier systems, for which he achieved a novel and effective molecular design. After he finished his Ph.D. degree, he focused on the development of culture substrates for several types of stem cells using biopolymers. In addition, he also worked on an array of drug delivery systems (DDS) for developing a controlled-release system for DNA delivery and a delivery system for anti-cancer protein drugs. His works contributed to establishing effective carrier systems of DNA and protein drugs. In June 2021, he started working at the Bioengineering & Nanomedicine Program (BENMD) at MGH.
