Hello and Welcome! I am excited to be starting a new year with the 6th grade Cooper House team. Although this is my seventh year with Scarsdale Middle School, I have been a middle school educator for over 20 years; working in both the Nyack and Binghamton, NY school districts. Throughout this site you will find information about my teaching style as well as specific information related to the 6th grade science curriculum and Cooper House policies/protocols. Please always feel free to contact me with any questions. Let's have a great year!
Each year the Cooper 6 house teachers choose a theme as a common academic and social emotional thread through which students can grow as middle years learners. This year cross-curricular homonyms were our inspiration! It all started with the notion that we will be using a rotating schedule within the house classes. (Don't worry, we'll explain soon.) It then became a conversation about how words like ROTATION had different meanings in each of our subject areas. Whether discussing images flipped on coordinate axes, optics, or personal and cultural contemplations, musings on REFLECTION seemed relevant as well. Finally, REVOLUTION fits snuggly within each of our curricula. We are excited to look for myriad multi-disciplinary learning opportunities within this framework.
