My name is Benjamin Reisner and I am a first year student at Capilano University in the Associate of Science program. I’m passionate about chemistry and hope to one day work in the material science/engineering field. Specifically in the area of metallurgy, researching and developing new alloys and industrial processes. I have been interested in metalworking, specifically welding and blacksmithing, since I was a teenager, which is what originally sparked my interest in metallurgy and chemistry.
I graduated from Windsor secondary school in North Vancouver in 2020. Between graduating highschool and starting at Capilano University I spent a couple years working and exploring possible career options. During this time I worked at an automotive shop writing work instruction manuals and at a welding shop as a welding assistant. Although these jobs provided me with valuable experience working in the trades, I ultimately decided to pursue my interest in chemistry studying at University over getting a welding ticket at BCIT.
Whenever I see an object that I want to buy, be It a piece of clothing, a tool, or a piece of furniture, I always seem to find myself thinking: "Hey! I could probably make that". This type of thinking has lead me to taking on a wide variety of projects, which have me trying out all sorts of hobbies and skills including Sewing, Blacksmithing, Welding, Carpentry, and Machining. I love throwing myself into the metaphorical deep end of a hobby or craft completely unprepared and having to improvise my way out. Regardless of weather or not I end up completing the project I originally set out to, I always come out the other side with a whole variety of new skills and experiences.
