Benjamin Faconnier is a French-Reunionese trumpet player, singer and music composer born in Perpignan, France. He started playing the trumpet at the age of 17, and it was at the conservatory of the city of Montpellier, where he graduated in jazz, that he developed a real interest for improvisation, and for the in-depth study of his instrument. During these years, Benjamin participated in numerous studio sessions, recording 16 albums (the last one being his own composition project) of different styles of music, and also performed a lot with the projects he participated in, either in his own name or in other bands. He has also gained experience in touring and performing in France and abroad: France, Reunion island, Belgium, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Bulgaria, Tunisia, South Africa and the UK. Benjamin is inspired by the music of Afro-American masters such as Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk, more contemporary musicians such as Roy Hargrove, Ambrose Akinmusire, and Chief Atunde Adjuah (former Christian Scott) to name a few, as well as Maloya, the traditional music of Reunion Island with African roots, where his origins come from. All this leads Benjamin to lead his first composition project called Papillon.
