Language Paper 2 explores non-fiction writers' viewpoints and perspectives. Section A consists of 4 questions, in which you'll analyse two linked sources across different time periods and genres, Section B consists of one question in which you will create a non-fiction source of your own. The allotted exam time is 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete both sections of the paper, worth 80 marks (50% of the student's language grade).
Section A of the paper is work 40 marks, and is composed of 4 reading questions.
Section B is also worth 40 marks, and contains a non-fiction writing prompt.

This question asks students to analyse both sources, infer meaning, and synthesise information either the similarities or differences.

This question asks students to analyse a section of one extract for language features and explain their effects.
Question 4: Compare how the writers convey their different perspectives/attitudes about…
This question asks students to evaluate the texts based on how the writers convey their perspectives and attitudes about a topic. Students should analyse both language and structural devices in their response.
Question 5: Writing to present a viewpoint.
This question will ask students to develop a piece of non-fiction writing based on: a statement, a writing style, and an audience. Students will be asked to present their view on the statement given.
