Language Paper 1 is an exploration of creative reading and writing, featuring one fictional source. The allotted exam time is 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete both sections of the paper, worth 80 marks (50% of the student's language grade).
Section A of the paper is work 40 marks, and is composed of 4 reading questions.
Section B is also worth 40 marks, and contains a creative writing prompt.

This question will ask you to select the correct answer in four multiple choice questions about a section of the extract.
Question 2: How does the writer use language to...?
This question asks students to analyse a specific section of the extract for language features.
Question 3: How does the writer structure the text to...?
This question asks students to analyse the whole extract for structural features.
Question 4: To what extent do you agree?
This question asks students to evaluate the texts based on a specific prompt, and explain to what extent they agree. Students should analyse both language and structural techniques in their response.
Question 5: Descriptive or narrative writing.
This question will ask students to develop a piece of creative writing based on either a visual prompt or a narrative prompt.
