Proceedings:
Prominent citizens of Bengaluru and experts in the domain of planning made presentations on the recent developments in Bengaluru, how the govt has announced various non plan, ad-hoc and arbitrary projects which are unscientific and will not benefit, and in fact would damage the city further. Naresh Narasimhan - architect & Urban Designer made a presentation on the need for Planned Development for Bengaluru. Prof Ashish Verma, IISc - Transport Expert made a presentation on how the Tunnel Road project will adversely affect sustainable and mass transit options of the city, and why it should be shelved.
Both experts highlighted the plight of Bengaluru due to Unplanned Development, and the frightening perpetuation of this trend by the present govt by announcement of non-plan, ad-hoc, and arbitrary projects, and the lack of effort in activating the constitutionally mandated planning authority (MPC) by the govt, and disinterest in ensuring that the city first has a holistic updated masterplan.
It was decided that the group would consult more experts and work towards developing a shadow masterplan to make the govt and public realise the true potential of Bengaluru as a planned city.
It was also decided that citizens would come together to oppose any moves by the govt in perpetuating unplanned development.
