Exploring Well-log-based Geochemical Mapping of the Mowry Shale Using Deep Neural Networks
This research uses advanced machine learning techniques to improve the geochemical characterization of the Mowry Shale, a siliceous-rich marine shale in Wyoming. The study aims to overcome the limitations of traditional geochemical analysis methods, which are costly, time-consuming, and reliant on scarce well-cutting/core samples. By leveraging well logs which is abundant, continuous, and easier to obtain—the study proposes to estimate geochemical measurements such as Total Organic Carbon (TOC), S1, S2, and thermal maturity.
