Born and raised in North Portland, Oregon, I spent my childhood taking advantage of every opportunity to explore the outdoors, both near and far from home. This passion for experiencing the natural spaces of the Pacific Northwest led me to the University of Oregon, where I am studying for a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science with a minor in Spanish. After completing my degree, I hope to continue investigating the intricate relationships present in our environments. Through the Environmental Leadership Program and Aves Compartidas, I had the opportunity to share my passion for ecology while emphasizing linguistic accessibility for my students.
The Environmental Leadership Program (ELP) is an interdisciplinary community-based learning program that matches student teams with non-profit organizations, government agencies and businesses to address community-defined environmental issues.
Within ELP, I worked on the Aves Compartidas (Shared Birds) program. Along with nine other undergraduates, I worked to design and implement a bilingual curriculum for 3rd-5th graders, using migratory birds to demonstrate to students in Oregon our cultural and ecological connections with Guanajuato, Mexico.
