Head Coach - Alexis Sanschagrin

“Coach Alexis” is entering his twelvefth year on the Belmont coaching staff, his eight as head coach and program coordinator.
While at Belmont, he also acted as the defensive backs coach, linebacker coach, and defensive coordinator for several U18 and U16 Team BC and Fox 40 teams and was appointed as a facilitator for the National Coaching Certificate Program (NCCP) where his role was to train and certify other coaches to the National standard.
Prior to joining Belmont Alexis coached five years at Mount Douglas Secondary, four of them as a head coach. In 2009 he led his team to an undefeated season and to the school’s first varsity Provincial Championship.
Alexis started his coaching career in his native province of Quebec, where he helped College Jean-Eudes win their first two AAA (now division 1) varsity high school provincial championships.
During his playing days, Alexis played free safety at the University of Western Ontario, where he started 31 out of 38 games and was selected twice on the conference all-star team. In 2002, Alexis was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts (30th overall) and played one year in the CFL.
Alexis holds four University degrees – a Bachelor of Arts (Western U.), a Certificate in Translation (McGill), a Bachelor of Education (U of Ottawa), and a Master of Education - Coaching Studies(UVic).
Alexis is currently working as a full-time teacher at Belmont where he teaches PE & French Immersion.
He lives in Sooke with his wife Jennifer, his daughter Annabelle, and his son Elliott.   “It is exciting to be part of a solid group of coaches, and I have enjoyed the process of establishing Belmont into one of the premier programs in the Province.
But beyond wins and losses, I believe that football provides an ideal environment for student-athletes to build self-esteem and develop and apply invaluable life skills such as: commitment, teamwork, work ethic and leadership.
Football opened a lot of doors for me, and coaching is a way for me to stay connected with, and give back to, the sport that brought me so much.”
