COMMITTEE ON LAWYERING IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST

(Bellow Scholars Committee)

CLINICAL SECTION of the ASSOCIATION OF AMERICAN LAW SCHOOLS

The Bellow Scholars Program recognizes and supports the research projects of clinical law professors that reflect the ideals of Professor Gary Bellow - a pioneering founder of modern clinical legal education.

Every two years, the Bellow Scholars Committee seeks innovative project proposals from clinical legal educators designed to improve the quality of justice in communities, enhance the delivery of legal services, and promote economic and social justice.  In particular, the Committee is interested in recognizing and supporting projects that employ empirical analysis as an advocacy tool and involve substantial collaboration between law and other academic disciplines. Selected projects become the focus of information sharing, discussion, and critique at the annual AALS Clinical Conference and at annual workshops organized by the committee. Selected Scholars are appointed for a two-year term.

Each year the Bellow Scholars Committee hosts two events: a workshop in the Fall (at alternating locations) and research presentations in the Spring (at the AALS Clinical Conference).

The committee chairs for 2023-2024 are Nermeen Arastu (nermeen.arastu@law.cuny.edu) and Alina Ball (balla@uchastings.edu).  If you have questions or comments about the Bellow Scholars Program, please email bellowscholarprogram@gmail.com
