Bell Library's mission statement

The library's mission is to be a safe space that provides equitable access to academic, technological and enrichment resources for students, teachers, staff, families, and the Bell community.

Bell Library's vision statement

The library's vision is to be the social, emotional, academic, and community hub of the school; to be a flexible and an adaptable environment, in which creativity, collaboration, and innovation occur everyday. 

Bell library's hours of operation

• The library is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., except on early release days.  

• When school is released early, the library is not open after school; however it is open before school.  

• The library is open during BIC, nutrition, and lunch; however, if parent and/or community meetings are in session during break or lunch, the library will be closed to students.  

Visiting the library during class time

• While students are allowed to come to the library during class, it is important that students have documented permission to be in the library during this time. 

• A teacher's note (not the gray hall pass) is needed for student's who are not accompanied by a teacher or a TA. 

  • The student and teacher's name need to be written on the note as well as the date and time the note is written. 

• Neither a note or pass is needed when students are accompanied by a teacher or TA.  

Behavioral expectations

• Eating food and drinking beverages (including water) is done before entering or after leaving the library.

• Control your voice.  Use inside voices and not outside voices. 

• Control your legs. Walking is appropriate...running is not. 

• Use appropriate language. 

• Sharing is caring.  Allow students you may not know to help put puzzles together, play games, or sit next to you.

• Check in at the circulation desk to access the computers and/or printers. 

• Clean up behind yourself (paper, trash, books, supplies, etc..).  

• Ask Ms. C. or Mrs. V. for help when needed. 

Checking out books

• Hard-copy books can be checked out one of three ways:

  • A students can present a physical copy of their student ID. The ID is scanned. This is the best way to check out a book. 

  • A student knows his/her student number and writes it down or verbally states it. This is the second best way to check out a book.

  • A student account can be accessed by using student's first and last name.  This is the hardest way to check out books. 

• Students can check out up to three books; however, if a student has outstanding books from Bell or another LAUSD school (including elementary and middle school), those books are included in the three book limit until they are returned or paid for.
