Number of players
We strive to play games with four players. If the total number of players doesn't allow for an even distribution of four-player tables, some players will be assigned to a three-player table.
Number of rounds and expansions used
We'll be playing three rounds: on Tharsis, Elysium, and Hellas. The base game and the Preludes 1 expansion will be used. Promo cards and other expansions aren't used.
Drafting
We use drafting, except for the ten-card opening hand.
Start game
Normal rules are applied. You can choose between 2 corporations and 4 preludes. You can't pick the beginnerscoporation.
Points Awarding
Players earn points based on their final position in a game. The winner receives five points, second place gets three points, third place gets two points, and fourth place gets one point. Points from all games are added together, so winning three games earns 15 points.
Tiebreakers
In game: The first tiebreaker for a tie is the amount of money (€M). The subsequent tiebreakers are: €M production, steel production, titanium production, plant production, energy production, and heat production.
In ranking : The first tiebreaker considers the strength of the player's opponents during the tournament by calculating the total number of points of all opponents the player has faced. The second tiebreaker is the player's average number of victory points per generation. This is calculated by dividing the sum of victory points over three games by the sum of generations over the three games.
Point distribution in a 3-player game
In a three-player game, a virtual fourth player is added with a point total equal to the average points of all players in the tournament. If a player leaves the tournament before playing three matches, their points are considered equal to the average points of all players. If the departing player's actual points are higher than the average points of all players, their actual points are used.
Table allocation
In the first round, players are randomly assigned to tables. In rounds two and three, we aim to place players of similar skill levels at the same table. Your skill level is determined by your results in previous rounds.
Playing time
At the Dutch Open, a round lasts a maximum of 2.5 hours. This equates to approximately 30 minutes of play per player. In our experience, this works well, even with less experienced players.
Fifteen minutes before the end of the round, the organizers will give a signal. When the round ends, the organizers will call to ask to end the game. The generation continues until the starting player of that generation (who doesn't get a turn). The generation finishes, there is one more production phase (including placing of greeneries) and points are counted.
