~ Knots of Love donates snuggly, soft blankets to Neonatal Intensive Care Units across the country. These hand-made gifts serve as a sign that each baby is loved and in the thoughts of caring people across the country.
We recommend using any of the yarns on our Approved Yarn List when making your NICU blankets.
Please do not choose a lacy pattern. Little fingers, toes, and tubes can get caught in blankets with holes.
Blankets should be approximately 24” X 30" (New size as of February 2022)

My pattern:
Cast on 137 stitches (I used about 150 inches of lead yarn)
Knit 5 rows for a bottom border - begin in the dark color
As the color of the yarn changes, use the garter stitch (darker) or the stockinette stitch (lighter).
Knit 5 stitches to begin every row to create a border.
Darker yarn for garter stitch (knit every row)
Lighter yarn for stockinette stitch (knit one row, pearl one row)
Knit 5 rows for a top border - end in the dark color
Bind off
Take care to match the color sequence from one skein of yarn to the next.
with 1 skein DreamBaby Paint Pot DK yarn
Cast on 80 stitches.
Create a K4 stitch border on each edge
I used Size US 7 needles for a looser weave
If your cast on row tension is too tight, the edges of the blanket might curl.
To avoid this, use one size larger needle to cast on, then switch to the correct needle size.
When you are finished with your project, wash it with Eucalan wool wash, which is sold at knitting stores.
Then block your project. Blocking 101
