The National Center for Children and Families in Bethesda, MD.

It was a gorgeous day, we left early from home to catch our car pool. It took about two hours to reach Cumberland for the train ride. The fresh air and beautiful autumn colors made the drive worthwhile. Morning sun added extra glow on the forest top, colors are so vibrant; you cannot help but praised the magical beauty of the nature. I took advantage and took a lot of photos while Sandy was driving. This is a great treat for me, a Californian, to enjoy the autumn color of the East Coast.
When the train arrived, all passengers got very excited. We were instructed to line up according to our color coded tickets.
Surprisingly, we were called to board first, as the conductor had a reserved cart for us, what a privilege and salute to our President Ma!
We couldn't wait to share our goodies, and enjoy all the good food while other passengers were still boarding. President Ma made and brought a lot of delicious 滷味 for all of us. After the goodies, singing is certainly a must. We competed with Children's songs, suddenly, we were all back to young days. It was a very exciting and fun journey.

Our events are just getting better and better! Look at those photos we took on 8/25 Year-End event! Food that everyone bought were just mouthwatering and delicious! We all had such a great time, eating, chatting, cooking, celebrating birthday and we also had a great informal (but serious) Board meeting. We challenged on our own plate decorations. Later Weina, Yiling, and LienChong prepared all the ingredients for the dumpling wrapping, while wrapping and cooking dumplings, it also rolled us back to high school days. While we all become cousins together during the party, 映 梅表姊, 秀 媚 表妹 accepted to be BOD for the coming year- What a joy to have them J!!!
The Grand Picnic at Seneca Creek State Park, Nuthatch Pavilion celebrated the coming of summer, it went so successful. Good food, shaved ice, singing, dance, and games. School anthems ranged from elementary schools to colleges, and universities. Everyone was so proud, and sang so hard for their own alma mater Thank you for many of your hard work and helps to make this event possible. TsueyLan, ShiPing, Linda, Grace, Weina, you are all so wonderful. Certainly we applaud our alumnae singing the school anthem which added the climax to the event. Cheer!
When BOD許 翠 蘭 told me that she needs some financial support from our Association’s to reach out to elders, and she told me the work was like勞軍團; I had no clue of the magnitude of this activity, but I made sure it becomes an activity event for our alumnae. Many of our alumnae had donated boxes of face tissues, clothing, and other stuff earlier this year. Before the event day, 翠 蘭 purchased and bagged enough bottles of liquid hand soap.. On 5/18 morning, 翠 蘭 carried all those stuff, big bags and small, together with some board members and alumnae, we went to the家園老人中心. We the armatures were immediately called and trained by guitarist Yuan-Lung Chen and formed a BeinuAADC Choir in 5 minutes! Besides the choir, we, BeinuAADC brought our best singer, best dancers, and the dream host to offer our Beinu’s excellent talents to the elders. I was deeply moved with the warm welcome, and the joy we received and offered. It was amazing to see the involvement and interactions between our group members with the elder audiences. Those elders joined us in singing and dancing on stage, there was not a second of dull moment. You have to be there to feel the excitement.
I sincerely appreciate all our alumnae who donated goods for this meaningful event, and I encourage you to attend this event next year to feel and to sense the joy, the happiness, and the excitement. It’s our blessing! Please see some photos here.

This once a year open house is a rare opportunity in DC for us to enjoy the culture and food of different countries. Most embassies offered free food, and also held performances outside the embassy yard, we could enjoy some events without waiting in the lines. I greeted some alumnae at the Indonesia Embassy, gradually we all took off at our own pace, and then found alumnae here and there at various locations. It’s quite fun. I visited Haiti Embassy which locates at the same building that our Taiwan Embassy resided long time ago.

Share a good time with 陳富贵校長while attending Tour of European Union Embassies Open House before the Mother’s day.
I have been acquainted with them while I was President of Southern California Alumni Association and was engaging on welcoming小綠綠 attending the Rose Parade in 2005. I was lucky and also honored to host the two VIPs and share the joy with them day in and day out during the week of their visit.
We visited the open house of four European Union Embassies, enjoyed the company of 30ish alumnae and friends.
The free shuttle bus almost became our private tour bus! We sampled tasty food, beers and drinks; appreciated the opportunities to learn cultures and heritages of other countries. It was a fun outing day on May 11.
We celebrated mother's day with children and grandchildren, visited African American National Museum, adored animals' fun and unbelievably lovely naughty behaviors at the National Zoo, bathed by the fresh air of the Klingle Valley National Park and Rock Creek National Park, we enjoyed the happy hour, soul food, and the taste of DC; and most pleasantly, we got to know more alumnae and friends. Please see the link for our good time photos. Do you recognize some of us in the pictures?
This once a year Flower Mart event held at the Cathedral was quite exciting both indoor and outdoor. Once we entered the Cathedral, we were greeted by Ecuador Embassy staff with beautiful roses. Taiwan TECRO Ambassador Kao offered an island map of Taiwan decorated by beautiful butterfly orchids. Hong Kong’s theme is fragrant Hong Kong, British embassy made an exquisite floral display by using flowers from the garden of its embassy. The USA’s display was a miniature version of the Bishop Garden. We took time to appreciate each arrangements, sampled food from many of the booths, and visit the Bishop garden. The unique collection of Itoh peonies were blooming on its peak days. I took some of my neighbors to there again on the next Monday and took more photos.
You can visit the garden anytime for free. Drop-in volunteers are welcomed every Tuesday from 9:30 am to 11:30 am.
Our Board member姚 昱 蘋 held a Facebook and High Tech workshop. We enjoyed learning new skills not only of joining and using Facebook group, but also the convention of setting security codes, login id; how to converting files, photos from one mobile device to another; and speeding up mobile or computer devices, and many things more…
It was a wonderful experience of sharing and exchanging knowledge of modern day’s needs. Never too old to learn anything. And better to ask our alumnae than ask your children ! If you are not in our Beinu DC Facebook group, we welcome you to join us and learn our activities and announcement in first hand.
It was a perfect day after a few very cold days, a beautiful sunny 70ish degree temperature for outing. With little breeze, new greens were peeking out, daffodils nodded on the hill, magnolia trees bloomed showily as many giant umbrellas covered in the air. Beinu alumnae and friends from other alumni associations went for a leisure walk at the zoo on such a beautiful day.
Our zoo friends were friendly to us also, besides the usual American Bison, elephants, zebra, and cheetahs we saw; we saw Beibei panda napping on the tree top, 4 Orangutans including the baby Redd and mother Batung walking on the O-Line in the sky. We saw the great Bee mural and giant hermit crabs. We saw sea lions showed off in front of audiences. Even the rarely seen tree climbing bear came out to play. We then visited the Rain Forest of the amazing Amazonia where we saw giant fishes, stingrays, horn billed flamingo-like birds, beautiful but poisonous frogs, and electrical eels powered lights on. It was a fun outing.
Some photos have been posted on the facebook. More photos and videos, please click here .
Our own alumna 蕭雅文博士Dr. Wendy Shiau gave an informative seminar to our alumnae and guests. She lectured in details of our physiological structure and function of our ears/audiological system, and symptoms, diseases and prevention that relate to our audiological system. Dr. Shiau gave wise advises on protecting our audio system and preventing the further loss of hearing, and on how to choose proper hearing aids. The lecture was well received, and numerous questions were raised by enthusiastic audiences, I was most impressed with Dr. Shiau’s soft spoken voice all through the lecture, it was very pleasing to our ears.
What a joyful gathering! With singing, dancing, delicious food, and spacious stage, we had a jolly good time
What a wonderful night we had on 3/9三校開春聯歡晚會, 97人參加 including 薛美瑜公使. I am deeply moved by your support and enthusiasms to the Alumnae Association. It demonstrates our unity and our team spirit to the outsiders.
Our four selected invitees高淑惠,潘志中,楊修微, 連城璧to represent Beinu for singing. And the three dance teams brought up beautiful surprises for their performance, ,《聞歌起舞》老婦變美女 life is hopeful!
Special thanks to many alumnae who donated gifts for drawing. We estimated the value exceeds $350.
Deepest appreciation to all Board Members, especially to Weina Koo, Linda Lin and TsueyLan Hsu for their great spirits and efforts in cooperating with the other two schools.
Our Facebook "大華府地區北一女校友會" /BEINU DC/ Beinu2000dc@gmail.com is on: If you receive invitation to join in by our Board member 姚昱蘋, or BEINUDC , I encourage you to join in. You will be able to post reasonable announcements or requests to the group, it will not be shared to the outsider.
北一女校友會 brought two big bags of care packages as drawing prizes for students. Both care packages contained many wonderful and delicious goodies donated by the love and kindness of all our Beinu alumnae.
圍爐迎春 was a big success. All alumnae enjoyed sharing good time, laughing, singing, chatting, and hugging with each other.
