Placement Process Test duration 90 marks, quants 30, English 30, logical reasoning 30. Most of them were in India bix. There was no GD but there is an extempore round during interview.Note- An Extempore is a short speech like thing. You will be given limited time ( generally 2 minutes) and you have to express your opinion on that following point. It a part of the personal interview. It is generally conducted at the beginning of the PI.There were 2 rounds total (HR + technical). Yes speed do play a role in selection process but it is not only the guiding criteria. Structural design , SOM,Geotechnical basics were the main topics that were asked. During screening cgpa till that time in all academic years, backlogs were considered. I haven't any separate preparation for this .Because those who have gone earlier to me have just disappointed them badly thats why I think that I got selected.

Placement Process The placement process was based on Percentage Cutoff and direct interview. The percentage cutoff was declared as 70% first but then on the screening process the cutoff was increased to 75%. Then we were called for interview. The date of our interview was 24th September(Tuesday), 2019. On fine morning of the interview, we arrived at DCPL office at Karunamoyee, Kolkata. The interview was to be conducted threre. In the Interview Panel there was total 6 members. The whole interview was only Technical and few HR questions were there. The first question of mine( after looking into my CV) they asked what do my father do and how I managed to do the lots of Projects during this B. Tech life. Then I answered them with my daily routine and they seemed to be quite pleased. Then they asked "Do you know ANSYS"( that was in my CV ) and I replied " Yes, Sir I know ANSYS as I had done my Internship in IIT BHU, there my work was based on simulating the Interfertence Effect by ANSYS Fluent" .They were again very surprised.
Then they started asking technical questions like - why we water bricks before placing the morter, BMD and SFD of portal frame, what is your preference - steel or concrete ( I answered concrete ), what is the numerical explanation of Over Reinforced, Under Reinforced and Balanced Section, slab design procedure in a excel sheet, formulation of numerical expression of deflection of beam under UDL on half of its span, active and passive earth pressure coefficient and their importance, BMD of UDM system over a cantiliver beam, earth pressure distribution diagram of a sheet pile in cohesive soil, whether it is possible to build a 4 storied building in Kolkata on Load Bearing Brick Wall, again they asked about Sway mechanism of portal frame by giving a problem, deducing the expression for three moment equation, what is the acceptable percentage of steel in beam, column and slab as IS 456.2000. There was also a few questions that I can not remember now.
Luckily I was able to tell all the answers except the pressure distribution diagram drawn by me was little bit wrong and thus the whole interview was conduted probably about 45 - 55 mins. This company is totaly design based consultancy company and as I was focused to get a job in the design and of course preferable job loaction was Kolkata that was a good oppurtunity for me. Please note that there is a bond of 3 years costing 1 lakh.

Placement Process Placement process:By this time you have already read the other interview experiences where the keywords are steriotype basic technical questions, Hr rounds and relocations. All these above experiences are very genuine and applies for my case too. I was asked 18 questions, I answered 16 of them (8 technical 5 Gk and 5 Hr and none of them will help you as they will ask you something different). So how can i help? I'd rather share some tips that I learned the hardway which should enrich your placement insight.
#So how do you know if you have basic knowledge?A: You do my mate. Being a student of this institute and passing all those sems means you are ready. All you need is to revise.
# What to revise? The syllabus is monstrous!A: Know the terminologies well and the reasons behind why things are done that way. The mistake I did in my previous interviews is that I was always paying attention to indepth derivations and values which is good for Design sectors but not for Construction field. No one will ask you for a derivationvof a concept. Just know how the concept works and they'll teach how to use them in field.
# What is your favourite subject?A: Be very specific about your favourite subject. If you don't have one, then make one; or two to be safe. It's not that hard, we've all passed sems in one night (This fool in his previous interviews said he had an overall interest in Civil and all subjects were his equally favourite. The interviewer was completely lost on where to ask questions from. Naturally the bullets came from all sides and was hard to dodge.lol! So, narrow down the probability of missing a question)
# So tell me about yourselfA: Prepare this one. This is your moment to place yourself in the best possible way but never mention your name again if the interviewer already mentioned your name i.e. (so Mr/s K, introduce yourself) Never start with Hi, I am K!
# What is Pre-placement talk?A: It is where the company will sell them to you and this is where you take notes for your HR round.. works 100%.
I'll tell you my B&R experience where they asked me "Why B&R?" I remembered during their presentation they stated about their office in Howrah and some work in Science City. My answer was, : "Sir, a company with a legacy of 100 years is something to be proud of. Whenever I went to Howrah Station my parents would point and show me the B&R office. I even remember seeing B&R logo in Science City. I always wanted to be a part of such a work where I can bring my family to let them enjoy what we build together. " (may be a bit exaggeration but i could tell he was impressed. This showed I knew about them, I am interested. Although I had no idea where the office was or where the emblem lies)
#What is GD round?A: B&R didn't have one but for the record I cleared every GD round so I feel I am qualified to answer. XD. The key point for GD is do not panic about the topic, everyone is equally ignorant. There is nothing about starting first, rather get the flow and speak second. Just don't let the interviewer see that you are nervous. Grab an opportunity to speak but don't jabber nonsense. Speak with confidence that will do.
#How to face the interview pannel?A: Certain points are there.a) Talk! There's no point for brief and to the point answer (state boarders know it well!;). They are here to listen to you, know you in and out. Do not let them guess about you! But obviously don't turn a single line answer to a paragraph.b) Never be too frank. Lol! (Some of my friends know about my SPCL interview and so I DO NOT recommend being too frank. It may work for some but it's better to know your limits)c) DO NOT mention you are a GATE aspirant.d) Tell them you ARE willing to relocate anywhere in India. All you want is to prove yourself.
So, you are now prepared my friend but remember one thing mate! IT HAS TO BE YOUR DAY TO GET PLACED! Even after all preparation, all the hardwork they may reject you. Just know IT WAS NOT YOUR DAY. I don't know how it works, neither do I believe in gems and stones but it happens. Never ever give up and just believe this phrase "BE COLLEGE ALWAYS HAS A HAPPY ENDING"

Placement Process The test was in online mode. The duration of the test was one and half hour. The pattern was basic aptitude and basic civil engineering questions but the syllabus was full,so don't take it lightly. The marks of the test was about one marks each question and about 45 and 30 question respectively of aptitude and technical.According to me as the question were easy so it was above 70%. So be ready to face a good challenge abong ur peers to be ahead. In my interview panel there were 8 students. We we're very nervous because we we're second in slot and the first slot as discussed by them is nerve breaking how lit they performed. Which is making me more tense. Now the topic was given ," which is responsible for joblessness, either govt or technology". I choose the government because I read newspaper on daily basis and this topic was flaunted over all. I was the only one to do so and all my friends went against me.but I somehow managed to defend myself using datas and govt agendas on the topic. The gd round is over. one my friend came to me and congratulated me. I think this was the best experience till that time that day. There were two round the technical and hr round ,but they were taking both at the same time . It proved to me as beneficial because it gave me chance to defend myself in hr questions by answering better if a lack in technical questions. Questions like- About bar bending schedule, questions based on your CV, cgpa, and what u learn in internship and training, have u got contacts there or how u got into companies and many more. If you have done any internship , be prepared for that from all angles. I can say that it is training which landed me job at shapoorji pallonji and construction limited. Almost starting of 7th semester, after summer vacation I started my preparation.

There was no negative marking.QA, DI , reasoning and short puzzles were asked. Those who qualified the first round had to appear for the second round. 2. Video interview- This round had 8 questions in which you had to upload videos for each question. Basic HR questions and 1-2 guesstimates were asked in this round. Thinking time for each question was 30 seconds and max time for each video answer could be 3 mins. There was no GD round. In general , 3 rounds of interview was being conducted. I was selected in 2 rounds only ( it is the decision of the authorities based on your performance whether they want to conduct 2 or 3 rounds. In maximum cases , it is 3) . Firstly, we had to solve a case study in half an hour which was a written round. After which you were called for the interview in which you had to explain the approach for your answers in the case study round. They even asked some extra questions related to the case. After qualifying the 1st round you have the 2nd round in which you can be asked guesstimates and puzzles as well as some HR questions. 3rd round is an HR round. You may also have to answer some puzzles here. About 2 days before the interview, I started my preparation. I was completely myself and did not fake anything or boast about me. I wanted the company to select me as I am. Further, applying the knowledge that you have acquire from your day to day experiences can get you a bonus point. I think these were the places where the interviewer was impressed by me.

Placement Process Initially there was three rounds but due to the internet shutdown the online test was cancelled so there was only two rounds. 1. Group Discussion2. Technical and HR interviewIn the Group discussion we had a group of six people and four of them got selected. The topic was Social Media. There was five minutes given for thinking about the topic and 15 minutes for the GD. The best way is two think about the topic from neutral perspective and note down as much points as possible and start as early as possible. In the next round I was asked all the generic questions like tell me about yourself, why we hire you etc. Some technical questions from Environmental Engineering, Hydraulics etc. They also asked of different IS code. Like the name of IS Code for steel design, IS Code for wind load etc. My interview was good and I was pretty confident. The best way to prepare for any interview is to stay positive and confident about any situation that may come and answer the questions that you know and if you don't know just say that you don't know there is no rocket science behind it.

There were a total of 25 questions to be answered in 25 mintutes. The cutoff was high. Those who correctly answered more than 22 questions were qualified to the next round. There was no negative marking in the aptitude test.2. Three questions were from java coding and the remaining are from mathematics covering probability and some other analytical sections. Two rough sheets were provided but the answers were to be written on the question paper and the rough sheets were also collected at the end. EDIT: The questions were printed on both side of a single sheet. But in my question paper the front side has five questions and mistakenly the other side was blank. I submitted my answer sheet with five questions solved within 10 minutes and after sometime I came to know that there were three more questions. On requesting the authority they return me my answer script and allow me to answer the remaining questions. But no extra time was provided to me. So I attended a total of 6 questions out a total 8 questions due to time constraints.3. Group Discussion - The GD round was a non elemination and non evaluation round. All those who appered in the written test were allowed in the GD round. They make groups of three to four peoples and gave each group a different topic and a sheet to write the thoughts of each group and also to write the name of the individual name of the student who gave the idea. After that the gave T-shirts to the best ideas. Result of the written test were published after that.4. Technical Interview - Total 11 students were selected for this round. First they give me a question based on coding and mathematics and gave me 20 minutes time to solve it. I took the right approach from the very first but it took me three tries to solve it. I solve it within 7 to 8 minutes. After that he gave me my answer script of written test and asked me the reason why I left two questions. I saw that I all the 6 questions attended by me was correct. Then he asked me to solve the other two questions. Then he gave me two more questions on coding. He asked me about my hobbies and final year project. Asked me some questions on 12th standard physics.5. HR Interview - All 11 students qualified for technical round were called for HR.
