C is for culture: Christmas markets are usually a typical tradition in countries like Switzerland, Germany and Austria. But Belgium has its own version, on a smaller scale. These markets look like tiny houses huddled together, selling different kinds of decorations, potential presents, winter gear, food and drinks. People stroll along the stalls, go ice-skating on a frozen rink out in the open, watch over the city in the ferris wheel, drink glühwein (hot mulled wine), eat ‘poffertjes’ (kind of mini pancakes) / ‘smoutebollen’ (a type of beignets) or celebrate the end of exams with different flavored 'jenever' shots.

Perfect parallel: Amber saying “You still look like a model” to Zoë in S1, Amber saying “A thin model. You’re exactly his type.” in S2.

Blink-and-y’ll-miss-it: Luca eating pancakes from her lunchbox.

Maandag 11:37

Perfect parallel: Zoë keeps using educational courses as banter with Senne. In the last episode she said “Did you learn it in your psychological course?”, now she says “Your brain is not developed enough for that. It’s in the syllabus, chapter three: primates”.

Dinsdag 11:23

Perfect parallel: Jens saying “I don’t even know who you are anymore” to Jana a few episodes earlier, Jana repeating the same thing to Robbe now.

Blink-and-y’ll-miss-it: Britt’s dealing brother is called Bas.

Woensdag 15:04

Perfect parallel: The girls going on a shopping trip at the Meir after their December exams in S1, they’ll repeat this act again after the June exams in S2.

Blink-and-y’ll-miss-it: They all bought something from 'Zara', 'Weekday' and 'H&M'.

Donderdag 17:03

C is for culture: “You have to look in the eyes” - A typical thing you do before clinking the glass. There’s a saying that ‘if you don’t look inside the eyes, it’ll be 7 / 10 years of bad sex’ for either party.

Perfect parallel:

  • Jens saying that the night of their first kiss, he was waiting for a sign: the song ‘Leave a light on’ by Tom Walker. Later, during their break-up sex, the song plays on the background.

  • The movements of the sex scene in S1 are similar to the ones from Zoënne in S2 and Sobbe in S3. Foreheads leaning on each other before a kiss, a cut to pushing themselves through a open door, a hand caressing along the side, fingers gripping a back, a hand through the hair, a cut to both of them having naked chests with one on top.

Blink-and-y’ll-miss-it: Jana’s decorative board changed to ‘Dear Santa, define naughty’.

Vrijdag 17:25

Where’s Wally: Keisha is selling hot waffles to people.

Perfect parallel: Senne jokingly referencing Darwin and the evolution theory to Zoë’s earlier sting about primates, as a way to flirt in S1. Robbe discussing this theory with Yasmina to ‘figure out’ his homosexuality in S3.

Blink-and-y’ll-miss-it: Luka’s flirty eye roll saying ‘omg, what’s this, please save me’ towards Jana about the girl next to him.
