Mouse Behavioral Scoring

Open Field Model:

The videos that I analyzed used the open field model to examine anxiety in mice. To measure anxiety in mice, I marked down every time the mouse displayed a non-anxious behavior. I defined a non-anxious behavior as the mouse going into the center of the field with its nose pointed forward, staying in the center of the field, and sniffing the center of the field. A non-anxious behavior is the mouse staying to the sides of the field, walking around the sides of the field, or trying to escape the field.

1st video: 4 tick marks

2nd video: 7 tick marks

3rd video: 10 tick marks

4th video: 7 tick marks

Based on the results, the mouse from the third video was less anxious than the other mice. It displayed 1o non-anxious behaviors in the model. The mice from the second and fourth video were more anxious than the mouse from the third video but still displayed non-anxious behaviors. The mouse from the first video was the most anxious mouse. It only displayed 4 non-anxious behaviors and stayed to the sides of the open field.
