A Church That Prays Together Stays Together
"Only what you do for Christ will last"
Brief Background History about Our Church
"Upon this rock, I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." (Matthew 16:18)
The Beech Grove Baptist Church had its beginnings around 1865 but due to some extenuating factors the history was not recorded and some was lost. Therefore Beech Grove celebrates 121 years of recorded and documented history according to records which shows that the physical building for the Beech Grove Baptist Church was built in the year of our Lord, 1892 when the late Rev. Willie Zinn, Sr. was the Pastor. He was a dedicated Pastor who served well until his death. After the death of Rev. Willie Zinn, Sr., the late Rev. Henry Allen became the next Pastor and he served a short period of time.
In 1939, the late Rev. Thomas Aites was elected as the third Pastor according to recorded history of the Beech Grove Baptist Church until God called him home. The late Rev. Bennett Scott was elected the fourth Pastor and he served until God called him from earth to glory.
After the sudden death of Rev. Bennett Scott, the late Rev. Tommy A. Green was elected the fifth Pastor of the Beech Grove Baptist Church. He served from 1968 until his death in 1988. Under Rev. Green's leadership, Beech Grove was remodeled and new furniture was purchased. In December of 1989, the late Rev. Mack Henry Wright was elected the sixth Pastor. He was installed as Pastor on Sunday, January 7, 1990 and passed away in 1991 after serving one year.
The seventh Pastor was Rev. Mack Henry Wallace. After serving for three years he resigned.
In June of 1995, Rev. John L. Bowman was elected the eighth Pastor. Under his leadership the church has blossomed into new heights of spiritual growth and prosperity. A new addition was completed, which includes a pastor's study, a baptismal pool, kitchen, overflow area, class room, choir room, secretary’s office, conference room and a cemented parking lot. The teaching ministry has been expanded, the Sunday School and Bible Study has grown, and the membership has continued to grow. The church's financial base has increased; new programs have been established for the spiritual growth of Beech Grove's worshipers and others in the surrounding community. Rev. Bowman has proven to be a faithful, loving and caring Pastor. It is our prayer that God will continue anointing and inspiring him so that he will continue to lead Beech Grove in the way of Christ.
The Beech Grove Family holds fast to its beliefs and commitment to God as we serve His people. Our Motto is “A Church that is “BAD” Building Amazing Disciples for Christ”. Our Mission is to bring the lost to Christ, to develop them to Christ like maturity, to equip them for their ministry in the church and life ministry in the world, in order to magnify God’s name and lift the Savior, so that God’s eternal purpose will be attained on earth.
