How can you help from home and in your communities?
Make a watering hole/bee bath to put in your own backyard! Bees need to drink water too!
You'll need a shallow bowl, rocks and marbles, and an optional solar pump (Still water can attract mosquitoes, as well as water that has been left out for too long)
Fill your shallow bowl with the rocks/marbles and fill it with water, making sure it only reaches around 1/2 - 3/4 the height of the rocks. If the water level is too high, the bees can drown, so make sure they can still perch on the rocks!
Eating organically and locally!
Organic and local foods mean less pesticides, and supporting small farms with sustainable practices, rather than large industrial farms that have a monoculture, will help the bees.
Provide homes for the bees!
Solitary bees like Mason bees rest in cavities. In the winter, having shelter is very important. You can either drill holes in wood or use hollow stems to provide shelter!
