On April 9, 2019 the students in the county life skills classes faced off in the 3rd annual Bake Off competition. Students competed in a STEM Challenge by building towers with index cards and masking tape, before the Open House began. Mrs. Garland's 10th and 11th grade students came out on top with their Peanut Butter Blossoms. Many families attended and voted for the favorite cookie. Families also had the opportunity to gather information from support agencies that can provide assistance in Employment and Independent living after students graduate from high school. Those agencies included Skills of Central PA, Center for Community Action, The Barber National Institute and PeerStar. Our door prizes were sponsored by Sheetz, Everett and McDonalds.
On April 18, 2018, students in the county-wide life skills program participated in a Cupcake Wars event. Miss Hillenbrand's 10th and 11th grade students baked and decorated 'Ocean Blue Funfetti Cupcakes' and Ms. Willis's students in 12th grade and up to age 21, created 'Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes'. Students and families tasted and voted for their favorites. Attendees also had the opportunity to meet with and get information from The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, Skills of Central PA and KBE Services. At the end of the evening, the votes were tallied and Ms. Willis's students won by a narrow margin. KBE Services sponsored a pizza party for the winning class.
