The question often asked : when will Becoming offer in-person worship?
When Becoming kicked off, people expected a ribbon-cutting event. But, Becoming isn't going to be your typical church community.
And while in the short-term that might be frustrating to some, in the long-term it's a good thing.
Because, the truth is Oswego doesn't need another church.
Instead, Oswego, like so many other communities, need an authentic, real community of people who love Jesus and want to love their neighbors - with no exceptions.
That is what we are going to do.
And so for the last month, the focus has been getting to know people. Having one-on-one conversations over coffee. Praying together. Learning one another's stories. Listening to what the Holy Spirit is up to in Oswego and beyond.
Yes, we will be gathering and worshipping at some point.
But, our foundation is much deeper than that.
We want to be a people on the move. Involved and serving.
We want to be unapologetically affirming and welcoming. Known by our love.
We want to show a different kind of leadership model. One where men, women, gay, straight, young, old, black, brown and white can be up front and spiritual leaders of the community.
To be that kind of mission start. To be that kind of church community, it means we need to build a strong foundation. We need to cultivate a healthy, accountable system.
That's why the first month has been largely one-on-ones at coffee shops.
We aren't slow and methodical out of fear.
We will try and fail lots.
We are being strategic because we want to be different. We plan to be responsibly eclectic and to be strategically ready for the Holy Spirit's work.
