At Becoming, we aren't performative when it comes to empowering & affirming black lives.
Yes, like so many other people & places, we celebrate Black History Month.
We remember Black History is American History.
We recall and lift up the black men, women and children who have made a difference in our world.
AND
Our work isn't done.
Black lives can't be confined to one month out of the year.
We still live in a world of racial disparity and Inequity.
We still have oppressive systems and discriminative institutions.
White supremacy and racism still exist.
We, at Becoming, renounce all the forces that defy God and God's people.
Racism. White Supremacy. Discrimination.
These are mechanisms of this Earthly kingdom.
All of these are forces that defy God's will and God's Kingdom.
These do not align with God's design for a harmonious creaiton.
These do not abide In Jesus' love.
These do not allow for the Spirit to work In and through diversity.
As a sign of our solidarity with our black siblings, we renounce racism. We renounce white supremacy.
We renounce discrimination of any kind.
Throughout Jesus' teachings, he was particular In who he used as the heroes of his parables (I.e. Samaritans)
Throughout Jesus' ministry, he was particular In who he dwelled with, ate with and served.
At Becoming, we follow Jesus' example and are particular too.
Yes, Jesus died for all.
Yes, God loves all.
But, the people who are being unjustly treated and killed are our black siblings.
We don't shy away from that truth.
Instead, we name It.
AND
We pledge our commitment to be a part of the conversation going forward.
We pledge to listen to our black sisters and brothers.
We pledge to join In speaking out against racist systems and Institutions. To stand up against mass Incarceration. To actively work towards racial equity and equality.
