Overarching Competency: Group Processes
I started at a "Developing" stage for this competency, and I feel that I have grown to achieve "Performing" and moving into "Transforming". Due to the work I have done with my role in technology I was fortunate to recently accept a position as the Dean of Students at Sleeping Giant Middle School (pictured above) in our district. Not only was I able to demonstrate my ability to manage groups and lead them through challenging times, but I was able to demonstrate that I am an effective leader for our district.
I started at a "Developing" stage for this competency, and I feel that I have grown to achieve "Performing" and moving into "Transforming". Due to the work I have done with my role in technology I was fortunate to recently accept a position as the Dean of Students at Sleeping Giant Middle School (pictured above) in our district. Not only was I able to demonstrate my ability to manage groups and lead them through challenging times, but I was able to demonstrate that I am an effective leader for our district.

Overarching Competency: Adult Learning
I started at "Developing" for this competency, and I feel that I have grown into "Transforming". I developed and led professional development opportunities for teachers in my school in various facets. I started originally by helping to host professional development to show teachers new tech tools that would enhance their instruction, and ended by leading professional development on how to teach online when the COVID-19 School closures occurred. Even with social distancing I was able to reach people and have them collaborate on items by creating a collaborative slide show (evidenced above) where we were all able to work in real time together.

Diversity, Equity, and Cultural Competency: Explore and Challenge Inequity
I started at "Developing" for this category, and through my project, I believe I was able to grow to "Performing". I believe that the work I did with technology equity helped me grow. In addition to the work I performed during the school year and my project, I have also been inspired to start on my Ed.D. in educational leadership at Montana State University (pictured above), where my dissertation focus will be on the equity of technology integration and its impact on student achievement. I am hyper aware of diversity in terms of technology integration, and will continue to work in my new role as a Dean to ensure that we are creating equitable learning environments for all students.

Instructional Competency: Community Awareness, Engagement, and Advocacy
I started at "Emerging" in this category, and believe I have grown to "Performing" in this category. I believe that the work I did with a varied level of adult learners, as well as varied levels of families and parents demonstrated my ability to work with diverse populations. I worked to ensure equity was being honored and maintained at every step of our school closure move to online learning. I was also a member of the Livingston Technology Task Force that was made up of members from all the schools, central administration and stakeholders from the community to work to provide resources and assistance to all families to ensure equitable learning opportunities for all students. You can see some of the planning work we have done in the spreadsheet (above).

TLI Experience
TLI Experience
The TLI Experience has pushed me to be more thoughtful about diversity and equity of the students and families as I continue my work in areas for which I am passionate about. I always have loved technology integration, and thought that I would be able to hone more leadership skills using that as the vessel for my project in terms of Adult Learning and Leading teachers. I never expected, however, to become so passionate about the inequities that creep up in education, particularly in terms of technology integration. I have become incredibly passionate about advocating for our diverse populations, and ensuring that education equity is being observed. The evidence to support my passion is my initial research and data collection I have completed for my doctoral degree (linked to the left). Here I explored the correlation between lower socioeconomic students and their achievement in traditional school compared to online school. I was able to use the data from my school to run this analysis and address the possible inequities that could arise due to socioeconomic status, gender, age, and race.

Throughout my TLI journey I was also enrolled in a Masters program in Educational Leadership. I knew that I wanted to take my leadership to the next level. Upon my graduation in May 2020, I immediately enrolled in the Doctor of Education program at Montana State University. I am only in my second class at this point, but am really loving that the work I did with TLI helped springboard me into my dissertation and research topic. As mentioned earlier, I was also fortunate to accept a role as the Dean of Students at the middle school in our district. Here, I will continue to improve my leadership abilities and continue to help shape students and teachers. I am incredibly grateful for the experience I've had with TLI, and am passionately looking forward to my new future in leadership!
