Hi everyone!
I come from Montreal, Canada. I worked for ten years in the Canadian broadcasting industry as a production assistant, audio recordist, camera operator, and field producer (in that order) for clients such as the CBC, TV5, MuchMusic, and various corporate clients. I came to the Bay Area in 2002 on a post-doc at Berkeley. I started teaching in the Broadcasting department at San Francisco State University in 2003 and at City College of SF in 2008, where I'm tenured faculty. I teach writing for and about the electronic media, digital media production and performance skills, and media criticism (the topic of my Ph.D).
My hobbies include co-hosting a radio show on KXSF-LP FM, biking and hiking with my kids and listening to lots of podcasts. I enjoy shows about the media business and especially interviews with creators and journalists who discuss how they make their shows.
I have been fascinated by electronic media since I was a kid. Every time I got to do something creative with media my passion for it grew. I never could have dreamed that we would be able to put our work up on-line and share it with the entire world in a matter of minutes, or seconds. I certainly never would have dreamed that we would be watching our videos on small portable screens for hours a day while chatting and face-timing. How fast the stuff of science fiction becomes everyday reality. I dare say you will be even more amazed at how things have changed when you look back three decades from now. We live in interesting times!
