This policy describes what information BeamQuest ("the game", made by Tired Wizard Productions LLC) handles and why.
WHAT THE GAME HANDLES
When you play online
- Your player name: the name you type in the game (or the one it suggests). Other players in your session see it, and it is shown on leaderboards.
- Your vehicle's state: position, speed, the vehicle and paint you chose, and your avatar's and hands' poses. This is sent through our relay server to the other players in your session about 30 times a second. It is not stored.
- Voice: when your microphone is on, your voice is compressed and passed through our relay server to the other players in your session in real time. It is not recorded or stored by us. You can mute yourself, and mute anyone else, at any time (Menu > Online).
- Network address: your IP address is seen by our relay server so it can pass messages to you. It is kept only in memory while you are connected, and in short-lived server logs (a join/leave line with the address) for running the service.
Leaderboards
- When you finish a timed race, your time, player name, vehicle class and vehicle are sent to our server and stored to show on the global leaderboards. Anyone playing the game can see the boards.
On your headset only
- Settings (volume, view and control options) and personal best times are stored locally on your headset.
YOUR PROGRESS (CLOUD SAVE)
If you play while signed in to your Meta account, your garage is saved on our server so it survives reinstalls and new headsets: owned cars, items, credits, wheelspins, and each car's tuning, decals and paint. It is stored under your Meta user ID (a number; we check it with Meta when you sign in). We do not get your Meta name, email, friends or anything else from your account. Stored on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure servers in the USA, with daily backups kept for 14 days.
PLAYER REPORTS
When you report a player in the game (Menu > Online > Report or block), we receive: your player name, a random code for your install (so you can delete your reports later), your Meta user ID if you are signed in, the reported player's name and in-game number, the reason you picked, the lobby, track, game version and time, and — unless you switch it off on the report page — the positions of the cars in your session over the last 30 seconds. Voice chat is never recorded or sent. We use reports only to keep online play safe. They are kept for up to 12 months, then deleted.
CRASH REPORTS AND ANONYMOUS PLAY STATS
To fix crashes and slow tracks, the game sends (on by default):
- Crash/error reports: the error message and where in the game's code it happened, the track, the game version and the headset model. No player name, no account, no install code.
- Anonymous session stats: game version, headset model and display refresh rate, how long the session was and how much of it was online, and for each track the time spent there and how smoothly it ran (frame-rate ranges). No player name, no account, no install code, no location, no voice.
Your network address is used only to receive the data and to stop flooding; it is not stored with it. Crash reports are kept 90 days, session stats 400 days.
Turn it off: Menu > Settings > Privacy and data > Send crash reports and stats = OFF. Nothing of this is sent while it is off (anything still waiting to be sent is dropped). Player reports you make yourself are still sent.
DELETING YOUR DATA
- Reports you filed: Menu > Settings > Privacy and data > Delete my reports and stats. This deletes, from our server, every report sent from your headset, and the copies on the headset. (Crash reports and stats have no link to you, so there is nothing of yours in them to delete.)
- Your cloud-saved progress, leaderboard entries, or anything else: email tomkalel@icloud.com with the subject "Delete my data", your player name(s), and — for cloud saves — say that you play signed in to Meta. We may ask you to confirm from the game so we delete the right account. We delete it within 30 days and confirm by email. Copies in our backups expire within 14 days after that.
- Everything on your headset: uninstalling BeamQuest deletes the settings, local progress and local report copies.
Reports about you that other players filed are kept for up to 12 months for safety reasons, then deleted.
WHAT WE DON'T DO
- We don't sell your information or use it for advertising.
- We don't collect your Meta account details, contacts, location or anything else from your headset.
- We don't record voice chat.
MICROPHONE
The game asks for microphone permission only for voice chat. You can deny it and still play; voice chat will not send your voice.
CHILDREN
BeamQuest is not directed at children under 13.
