In this study participants are invited to try a consumer-grade EEG (electroencephalogram) headset that is designed for people to see and monitor their own brainwaves. This device is called a brain-computer interface (BCI). We are interested to learn what participants think about the use of such devices for educational purposes.
Participants will be supervised at all times while wearing the EEG headset and will be asked a number of interview questions. The entire experience should take about an hour of your time.
Eligible ages: 18 to 100
Inclusion criteria:
Adults (18+ years) who are able to come to the University of Calgary main campus for data collection are eligible. Participants must be able to provide consent on their own behalf and be willing and able to communicate directly with the research team.
Prospective participants will be asked to compete a pre-screening questionnaire to determine other eligibility criteria.
Exclusion criteria:
Individuals who are unable to provide consent on their own behalf or who are unwilling or unable to communicate directly with the research team are ineligible.
Participants with medical conditions that may be triggered by the use of the headset (e.g., epilepsy) may be excluded. This would be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Note: Data collection for our pilot study has closed. We will update the website when the next phase of the study begins.
This study has been approved by the Conjoint Faculties Research Ethics Board (CFREB) at the University of Calgary. (REB-ID: REB24-1954)
