Do I need cash? How much?
The local currency is Costa Rican colones. Most places accept apple pay or credit cards, check your bank to be knowledgable about any fees for these transactions. Many folks also accept Venmo, PayPal or Zelle. That said, it can be nice to have cash on hand for adventures such as the farmers market, small street side shops, and Tuktuk rides! You can gather cash from the ATM in town (it's in Spanish but Angie can help!) or get currency before leaving (many banks will get it for you!) A couple hundred is a safe amount.
Do I need to know Spanish?
While Spanish is the local language, most folks will speak some English and otherwise are patient with Google Translate. Angie knows Spanish well enough for getting around and usually in Nosara a smile and a wave will get you a long way. The community is very kind and since we will be there during high season folks will be expecting a lot of different languages (including a lot of French!).
Are there any MUST try restaurants?
Yes! I think argubly the best vegan restaurant I have ever tried is Luv Burger, and the owners are close friends. Destiny will have lattes that will impress your socks off, Rolling Waves coffee has the best espresso (and espresso martinis) and Howlers the most adored fresh ceviche.
Should I bring my yoga mat?
Having a personal yoga mat is optional. The shalas we practice at will have one. If you are worried about carrying one for your journey let us know and we can work on finding a travel alternative! Some popular ones include manduka eco lite, jade voyager, yogo folding mat.
What about Bug Repellent?
Generally I think buying a local bug repellent is a good way to go. I have used these bio friendly Avon wipes which smell great, soften your skin, pack easily, and are very convenient to carry around the whole day!
Is there an option for Laundry?
Yes, Bodhi Tree offers laundry services at a cost. Alternatively you can wash by hand and try to hang dry, though note we will be on the edge of rainy season and humidity will be fairly high!
Suggested packing list?
This will be dry season which means hot weather, dusty weather, gorgeous sunshine, and not many bugs! Note our house will come with shower toiletries provided and Angie is happy to share some of her favorite brands for the area! We also have two sets of washers and dryers so we can do laundry through the week!
Other items to consider:
Yoga clothes for at least 1 session a day in studio and potential 1 adventure session
Swimsuit for beaching and consider the water VERY swimable (if you'd like to surf, surf gear!)
Lounge wear for the house! We have our own pool and get to hang around
Clothes for a photo shoot (unless you're going naked which is optional too!)
Sandals are a great choice, sneakers for hiking are helpful
One outfit that's fun to dance in for ecstatic dance night
One outfit you don't mind getting dirty during sweat lodge (we sit in the mud)
A few out on the town dinner outfits (heels are not recommended, wedges are ok!)
A lightweight towel as extra
A yoga mat
Journal, quill, crytals
