The i-City today was founded on the determination to offer an integrated lifestyle ultrapolis. Characterised by a number of strategic alliances with some of the world leaders, the city is underpinned by a local blueprint, yet with a global footprint.
i-City's skyline is decorated by global brand names such as Central i-City Mall, the 1 million sq. ft. shopping mall. Opened back in 2019, it is a joint venture with Thailand's largest retail developer - Central Pattana (CPN).
In the second half of 2021, the city will see the completion of DoubleTree by Hilton, an American multinational hospitality brand. This would be the second hotel in i-City, after Best Western Hotel that has been serving its guests since 2015.
With successful partnerships already built with illustrious "brick and mortar" global names, the city also formed partnerships with leaders of the "new world" like Huawei, HIKVision and Sensetime. In 2021, a collaboration with the China-based tech giant, Tencent, has also started on the setting up of an E-commerce Platform at Central Walk.
For i-City's tourism component, it has received accolades from CNN Travel as being among the world's top 25 brightest and most colorful places. In addition, the city is also endorsed as a tourism destination by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and declared an International Park by the Selangor state government. Upon completion, i-City will be home to 25,000 residents and 30,000 knowledgebased workers.
Sumurwang Tower, the Green Building Index-certified Grade-A office tower, will have an 80% take-up rate by the end of 2021, with the relocation of Maybank head office from KL to i-City. This will set the city as a significant financial hub, validating its vision for the transformation journey, As i-City grows and develops, it shall face a variety of challenges, including job creation, environmental sustainability, and city management. Given these trends, it is ever more important that i-City develops its full potential as the Malaysia No.1 Technology City.
