Better Dream Foundation, an NGO based in the Upper East Region of Ghana, recently conducted a significant initiative on the 20th of January 2023, by donating sanitary pads and providing menstrual health education to four schools in the region. The beneficiary schools, namely Hamdaniya Primary School, Hariya Primary School, Zebilla Primary School, and Azanga Primary School, are all located in the town of Zebilla.
In an interview with the founder of Better Dream Foundation, Master Shaibu Mohammed, he emphasized that the project was born out of the realization of the challenges faced by young girls in the region. The high cost of sanitary pads and the lack of adequate menstrual health education were major factors that led him to embark on this critical endeavor.
Master Shaibu stated that the escalating prices of sanitary pads have rendered them unaffordable for many young girls, leading to adverse consequences. Due to financial constraints, some girls resort to using pieces of cloth during menstruation, hindering their ability to attend school regularly. Moreover, the lack of proper menstrual hygiene knowledge poses additional challenges for these young girls.
With the support of Better Dream Foundation, the schools received essential menstrual hygiene supplies, and the students participated in enlightening education sessions on menstrual health. Through this initiative, the NGO aimed to empower young girls to manage their menstrual health effectively and overcome the barriers to their education caused by the lack of access to sanitary pads.
The beneficiaries of the project, the students at the recipient schools, expressed their profound gratitude to Better Dream Foundation for its generous support and educational efforts. The impact of this initiative extends beyond the provision of sanitary pads, as it equips young girls with essential knowledge and resources to maintain their well-being and continue their education without disruption.
The success of this project exemplifies Better Dream Foundation's commitment to uplifting and empowering communities in the Upper East Region of Ghana. By addressing the critical issue of menstrual health and education, the NGO is making a positive impact on the lives of young girls and promoting gender equality in education.
Through collaborative efforts and continued support, Better Dream Foundation strives to create a brighter future for the youth in the region and break the barriers that hinder their growth and development. The organization remains dedicated to its mission of improving the lives of young people and fostering positive change in the communities it serves.
