"Always remember the first rule of power tactics; power is not only what you think you have, but what your enemy thinks you have." -- Saul Alinsky
No matter what pressure is applied, crime will always continue to evolve and seep through new cracks. As part of our strategy to stay proactive in developing our responses toward criminal elements, the Street Enforcement Team was formed as a clandestine and elite division designed to have the most rapid response in high-crime areas. It is current under the command of Captain Jamie Broad.
BECOMING A STREET ENFORCER:
Commonly referred to internally as a concept somewhere between the Major Crimes Division and the Special Response Team, SET is a rapid-response unit utilizing modern investigative and paramilitary tactics evolved for the time we live in. It was inspired by "Enhanced Foot Patrol" and "Jump-Out Squad" units that have begun developing in police departments across the country over the last 20 years.
SET's mission is to patrol high-crime areas or attach themselves to high-profile criminal warrants, and apprehend criminals at lightning speed when they least expect it. Due to the nature of their work, details about the inner-workings of the division are considered classified to the general public, and the identities of its operators are kept hidden -- even from the rest of the department.
Unlike other divisions, there are no applications for enrollment and individuals are approached and hand-selected from the department by the team's leadership. It is even more competitive to get into than even the Special Response Team, keeping a short list of anywhere from 6-12 operatives at any given time. Eligible units must be both Major Crimes detectives and Special Response Team operators, making this the most challenging and elite division in the Blaine County Sheriff's Office.
NOTE ABOUT ENLISTING:
As there are no applications, eligible units are hand-picked. If you are interested in trying out for the Street Enforcement Team, please reach out to your leadership to find out what you must do to be considered.
