Unit 1: Introduction to Probability
Unit 1: Introduction to Probability
Definitions of random experiment, outcome, sample space, event, simple event, compound event, certain event, null event, equally likely events, mutually exclusive events, dependent events, independent events, exhaustive events, classical definition of probability, definition of conditional probability, addition law of probability (without proof), multiplication law of probability (without proof), numerical problems (without use of permutation and combination)

Unit 2: Probability Distributions
Binomial Distribution: probability mass function, mean and variance (without proof), properties (without proof) simple numerical problems to find probability and parameters. Poisson Distribution: probability mass function, mean and variance (without proof), simple numerical problems to find probability and parameter. Normal Distribution: probability density function, mean and variance (without proof), properties of normal curve, standard normal distribution, numerical problems to find probabilities for given area under standard normal curve.

Definition and uses of time series, Components of time series, Methods of measuring trend: method of progressive averages, method of moving averages, and method of least squares, Numerical problems, Measurement of seasonal variations using simple average method, Numerical problems.

Need, meaning, and uses of index numbers, applications of index numbers in share market, Problems involved in construction of index numbers. Price, quantity, and value index numbers, simple index numbers by simple aggregate method and simple average of relatives’ method (using A. M.), numerical problems, weighted index numbers by Laspeyre’s, Paasche’s, and Fisher’s formulae, numerical problems.

Dr. N. H. Jadhav is working as an Assistant Professor of Statistics since August 2014. He has 15 years of research experience, 1-year professional experience, and 10 years of teaching experience. He has been awarded Ph. D. in the topic “Some Contributions to Alternative Methods in Regression Analysis” from Shivaji University, Kolhapur. He has published 9 research articles in well reputed international journals. He has participated in different international, national, regional, university level conferences, seminars and workshops. He has received "Best Presentation Award - First Prize" in National Symposium on Statistics and its Applications for Young Researchers organized by University of Madras. He has received "Best Teacher Award" for the academic year 2023-2024 from D. R. K. College of Commerce, Kolhapur. He has worked as a reviewer for the reputed international journals. He is a life member of Indian Society for Probability and Statistics (ISPS) and Shivaji University Statistics Teachers Association (SUSTA). He has good hands of experience on statistical softwares like SPSS, MATLAB, MINITAB, R, SYSTAT, and SAS. His current research interests are Applied Statistics, Regression Analysis and Robust Regression.
