The Butte County Firefighters’ Burn and Benevolent Foundation – What is it all about?
The purpose of the Foundation is to provide financial assistance to the families of its members in case of death or disability or serious injury/illness; provide limited financial assistance to citizens of Butte County directly impacted by emergencies and/or “events”; provide financial support to established non-profit organizations (such as Burn Centers, Children Cancer Camps, etc.); and to provide limited financial support to community events that impact the membership.
The Foundation was started back in the late 1970’s/early 1980’s, getting its financial start from the annual North Chico Pancake Breakfast. It was originally named the Butte County Firefighters Burn and Benevolent Fund. The Foundation became stagnant in the late 1980’s, until about 1998. In 2000, a great idea was brought forward by a member, to embark on an annual Community Crab Feed. The Crab Feed has been a significant success and is the Foundation’s primary annual fundraiser.
The Foundation annually contributes to non-profit organizations such as the Butte County Fire Explorers, Firefighter Cancer Support Network, Camp Okizu, the Shriners Children’s Hospital, and various burn camps, to mention a few. The Foundation has been very active at supporting members’ needs, allied agency personnel needs (local law enforcement and other agency fire fighters), as well as our Butte County residents.
The Board of Directors is committed to maintaining a solvent Foundation so it is always ready and prepared to assist each and every member,m during times of crises. The Board of Directors currently serving you are Troy Hand, Joe Verska, Austin Wiseman, Adam Mack, and Greg Holman.
