Gut Restoration Tea
A research-confirmed herbal supplement blend formulated to support the normal structure and function of the gastrointestinal system.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
WHAT THIS TEA SUPPORTS
This formula was not built by tradition. It was built from the biology up — one biological marker at a time — using peer-reviewed research to confirm every herb before it was added.
A healthy, fully functioning gut operates across four specific biological markers. When all four are working, your gut is working. When any one breaks down, everything downstream breaks down with it — digestion, energy, immunity, mood, skin, hormones, and more.
The four markers this formula addresses:
MARKER 1 — Microbial Diversity
A broad, balanced community of beneficial bacteria in the gut. Your microbiome is the foundation of nearly every biological system in the body. Modern diets, processed food, antibiotics, and environmental stressors systematically deplete it. This formula feeds and restores it directly.
MARKER 2 — Intestinal Barrier Integrity
The gut wall is a single layer of cells held together by proteins called tight junctions. When those junctions weaken — commonly known as leaky gut — pathogens, undigested food particles, and inflammatory compounds pass through into the bloodstream. This formula supports the structural integrity of the gut wall and the proteins that hold it together.
MARKER 3 — Immune Regulation
Approximately 70% of the body's immune tissue lives in and around the gut lining. This formula supports immune responses that are calibrated appropriately — neither over-activated nor suppressed.
MARKER 4 — Motility and Digestive Function
Food moves through the digestive tract at the right speed, nutrients are absorbed completely, and waste exits cleanly and comfortably. This formula supports the full cascade of digestive function — from the enteric nervous system and gastric acid secretion to bile flow, enzyme production, and transit time regulation.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
HOW THIS SUPPORTS YOUR WHOLE BODY
The gut is not just a digestive organ. It is the body's central regulatory system. When it breaks down, everything downstream breaks down with it. When it restores, everything downstream gets a chance to recover.
Here is what the research supports across body systems when gut function is restored:
ENERGY
When nutrients absorb properly, steady baseline energy returns. The afternoon energy crash is often a gut absorption problem, not a caffeine deficiency.
CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH
A leaky gut sends inflammatory compounds into the bloodstream continuously. That systemic inflammation is a confirmed driver of arterial stress and cardiovascular strain. As the gut barrier heals, that inflammatory load drops. Dandelion root also supports healthy blood pressure and cholesterol through bile and liver pathways.
BRAIN AND MOOD
95% of the body's serotonin is produced in the gut. Ginger and chamomile both interact directly with enteric serotonin receptors. Restored gut function supports mood stability, reduced brain fog, and clearer mental clarity through the gut-brain axis.
LIVER HEALTH
Dandelion root and chicory root directly support liver function. The gut and liver communicate through a shared pathway — a leaky gut sends a constant stream of toxins to the liver for processing. When the gut barrier heals, the liver's burden drops significantly.
IMMUNE FUNCTION
With 70% of immune tissue located in the gut, restoring gut function is one of the most direct ways to support immune health. Astragalus and licorice root both work directly on gut immune tissue.
JOINTS AND INFLAMMATION
Leaky gut is confirmed as a driver of systemic inflammation that manifests throughout the body, including in joints. As the gut barrier heals and systemic inflammatory load drops, joint comfort often improves.
SKIN
The gut-skin axis is well established in the research. Chronic skin conditions including eczema, acne, and rosacea are frequently driven by gut dysbiosis and barrier dysfunction. The skin often responds when the gut does.
SLEEP
Chamomile supports circadian rhythm alignment in the gut and calms the enteric nervous system. An evening cup supports overnight gut recovery and sleep quality through GABA modulation.

THE SIX HERBS
Every herb in this formula was confirmed by peer-reviewed research before it was included. Each one addresses multiple biological markers simultaneously. Nothing is here by tradition alone.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
DANDELION ROOT (Taraxacum officinale)
Dandelion root is one of the most versatile herbs in this formula. Its high inulin content directly feeds beneficial gut bacteria, stimulating growth of Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus strains confirmed in human clinical trials. It stimulates bile production and flow, supports digestive enzyme secretion, assists liver function, and helps regulate gut transit time.
Markers supported: Microbial Diversity, Motility and Digestive Function
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
CHICORY ROOT (Cichorium intybus)
Chicory root is one of the richest natural sources of inulin prebiotic fiber. Human clinical trials confirm that chicory root inulin significantly increases populations of beneficial bacteria, supports short-chain fatty acid production, and contributes to intestinal barrier integrity through the SCFA pathway. Works synergistically alongside dandelion root to deliver a combined prebiotic effect greater than either herb alone.
Markers supported: Microbial Diversity, Intestinal Barrier Integrity
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
ASTRAGALUS ROOT (Astragalus membranaceus)
One of the most well-researched herbs for gut wall integrity and immune regulation. Astragalus polysaccharides strengthen tight junction proteins — the molecular locks that hold the gut wall together and prevent permeability. It modulates gut immune activity to support both protective immune response and appropriate restraint of inflammation. Confirmed in multiple peer-reviewed studies.
Markers supported: Intestinal Barrier Integrity, Immune Regulation
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
LICORICE ROOT (Glycyrrhiza glabra)
Licorice root works across more biological markers than almost any other herb in this formula. It supports the mucosal lining of the gut wall, calms enteric nervous system serotonin activity, protects against excess gastric acid, reduces visceral hypersensitivity, and supports appropriate immune response. It also acts as a synergist — meaning it enhances the bioavailability and effectiveness of the other herbs it is combined with.
Markers supported: Intestinal Barrier Integrity, Immune Regulation, Motility and Digestive Function
Note: See Safety section below for important dosing information.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
GINGER ROOT (Zingiber officinale)
The most clinically studied herb in this formula. Ginger has been confirmed across more than 100 randomized controlled trials for digestive function. It stimulates the migrating motor complex — the gut's between-meal housekeeping sweep that clears bacteria and debris from the small intestine. It promotes gastric emptying, supports digestive enzyme and bile secretion, interacts directly with enteric serotonin receptors, reduces visceral hypersensitivity, and supports vagal tone. Of all herbs evaluated for this formula, ginger covers more of the confirmed components of motility and digestive function than any other single herb.
Markers supported: Motility and Digestive Function
Note: See Safety section below for blood thinner information.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
CHAMOMILE FLOWER (Matricaria chamomilla)
Chamomile is a confirmed antispasmodic, enteric nervous system calming agent, and circadian rhythm support herb. It supports the gut's electrical pacemaker cells (interstitial cells of Cajal), helps align the gut's circadian rhythm with the body's natural sleep-wake cycle, reduces visceral hypersensitivity, and supports mucus secretion. Its GABA modulation activity supports both gut recovery and sleep quality simultaneously, making it particularly effective when consumed in the evening.
Markers supported: Immune Regulation, Motility and Digestive Function

WHY YOU NEED A FAT CARRIER
This formula contains both water-soluble and fat-soluble compounds. Water alone will extract the water-soluble compounds. But several of the most important therapeutic compounds in ginger, chamomile, and licorice root are fat-soluble — meaning water cannot carry them fully. Adding a small amount of fat to your brew ensures complete extraction of everything this formula has to offer.
The fat does not need to fully mix with the water. It simply needs to be present during the simmer so fat-soluble compounds have something to bind to during extraction. Stir before drinking to distribute both fractions in every sip.
Choose the fat carrier that works best for your diet:
COCONUT OIL
Amount: 1 teaspoon
When: Add to the cold water before heating, at the very start of the simmer
Best for: Anyone. Universal, flavorless, heat stable, dairy-free, lactose-free, gluten-free. The most accessible option for every dietary need.
FULL FAT CANNED COCONUT MILK
Amount: 2 tablespoons
When: Add to the cold water before heating
Best for: Anyone who wants the best overall extraction and the most pleasant drinking experience. Use canned, not the refrigerated carton version — carton coconut milk is too diluted to be effective. Slightly creamy result.
COCONUT CREAM
Amount: 1 tablespoon
When: Add to the cold water before heating
Best for: Anyone wanting maximum fat content and richest extraction. Thicker than coconut milk, higher fat content, excellent results.
MCT OIL
Amount: 1 teaspoon
When: Add to the cold water before heating
Best for: Anyone already using MCT oil for wellness or keto. Completely flavorless and colorless. Mixes into hot liquid better than most oils. Excellent fat-soluble extraction capacity.
AVOCADO OIL
Amount: 1 teaspoon
When: Add to the cold water before heating
Best for: Anyone who wants a neutral, clean fat option. Heat stable, mild flavor, works well with the herb profile.
GHEE (Clarified Butter)
Amount: 1 teaspoon
When: Add to the cold water before heating
Best for: Those who tolerate dairy fat. Ghee is clarified butter — the milk proteins and most of the lactose are removed during clarification. Tolerated by many lactose-sensitive people. Rich, slightly nutty flavor that pairs well with ginger and chamomile. Not appropriate for true dairy allergy.
HEMP SEED OIL
Amount: 1 teaspoon
When: Add to the cold water before heating
Best for: Anyone who wants added omega-3 and omega-6 alongside their gut restoration protocol. Mild nutty flavor, heat stable at gentle simmer temperatures. Has its own mild anti-inflammatory properties that complement this formula.
GRASS-FED BUTTER
Amount: 1 teaspoon
When: Add to the cold water before heating
Best for: Those who tolerate dairy. Contains low levels of lactose — tolerated by many but not appropriate for severe lactose intolerance or dairy allergy. Higher in fat-soluble vitamins than regular butter.
OLIVE OIL (Extra Virgin)
Amount: 1 teaspoon
When: Add to the cold water before heating
Best for: Anyone who has nothing else on hand. Works for extraction but has a more distinct flavor than other options. Better as a backup than a first choice.
NOT RECOMMENDED FOR THE SIMMER — FLAXSEED OIL
Flaxseed oil degrades at simmer temperatures. If you want to use it, stir 1 teaspoon into your finished cup of tea right before drinking rather than during the decoction.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
HOW TO BREW
This formula is premixed — all six herbs including chamomile are already blended together. Use one heaping tablespoon of the premix per cup. All methods below use the full premixed blend. Choose the method that fits your setup.
Important: Add your fat carrier to the cup or vessel first in every method before the hot water goes in. This ensures the fat-soluble compounds have something to bind to from the moment the hot water hits the herbs. Stir well before drinking.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
METHOD 1 — TEAPOT OR KETTLE (Single Cup, Easiest)
Best for: Anyone brewing one cup at a time with no stovetop setup.
Step 1 — Place your herbs into a large tea bag (minimum 4 x 6 inches), a large mesh infuser, or loose directly into a large mug or mason jar.
Step 2 — Add 1 teaspoon of your fat carrier directly to the cup or mug.
Step 3 — Heat your water to just before a full boil — not a rolling boil, just before.
Step 4 — Pour 14 to 16 oz of the hot water over the herbs and fat carrier.
Step 5 — Cover the cup with a small plate or lid to trap the heat.
Step 6 — Steep for 20 minutes. Do not rush this. The longer steep time compensates for not simmering and ensures the roots have time to release their compounds fully.
Step 7 — Remove the bag or strain, stir well, and drink warm.
Note: This method works well for daily use and is the most practical approach for most people. The 20-minute covered steep is essential — do not cut it short.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
METHOD 2 — STOVETOP SIMMER (Best Extraction)
Best for: Anyone who wants maximum extraction from the formula. This method draws more from the roots than any other approach.
Step 1 — Add 14 to 16 oz of cold water to a small saucepan.
Step 2 — Add 1 teaspoon of your fat carrier to the cold water.
Step 3 — Add your herbs directly to the water or place them in a large tea bag and drop it in.
Step 4 — Bring to a gentle simmer — not a boil, a low steady simmer.
Step 5 — Hold at a gentle simmer for 15 minutes.
Step 6 — Remove from heat. Cover and let sit for an additional 10 minutes.
Step 7 — Strain into your cup, stir well, and drink warm.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
METHOD 3 — FRENCH PRESS (No Straining Needed)
Best for: Anyone who wants easy cleanup and consistent daily brewing.
Step 1 — Add your herbs directly to the French press.
Step 2 — Add 1 teaspoon of your fat carrier.
Step 3 — Pour 14 to 16 oz of just-below-boiling water directly over the herbs.
Step 4 — Place the lid on but do not press yet.
Step 5 — Steep for 20 minutes.
Step 6 — Press slowly and pour. Stir before drinking.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
METHOD 4 — THERMOS METHOD (Best for On the Go)
Best for: Anyone who wants to brew once and sip throughout the day.
Step 1 — Preheat your thermos by filling it with hot water, letting it sit for a minute, then emptying it.
Step 2 — Add your herbs and fat carrier to the thermos.
Step 3 — Pour 14 to 16 oz of just-below-boiling water directly in.
Step 4 — Seal the thermos.
Step 5 — Wait 20 to 25 minutes before opening.
Step 6 — Pour through a strainer into your cup as you drink throughout the day, or use a tea bag inside the thermos for easy removal. Stir before each pour.

STRAINING OPTIONS
This formula produces approximately 2.5 tablespoons of loose herb per cup. A standard small tea ball will not hold this amount. You need a minimum bag or basket size of 4 x 6 inches. Choose any of the following:
LARGE DISPOSABLE BAGS — easiest for beginners
Look for unbleached disposable tea filter bags at least 4 x 6 inches with a drawstring. On Amazon search: large disposable tea filter bags 4x6 unbleached. VIVA Large Manila Hemp Tea Bags (50 count) hold up to 6 tablespoons — more than enough for this formula. Unbleached, compostable, chemical-free, no flavor interference.
LARGE REUSABLE MUSLIN BAGS — best for daily use
Unbleached cotton drawstring muslin bags. Reusable and washable hundreds of times. On Amazon search: large muslin drawstring tea bags 4x6.
ORGANIC COTTON AND HEMP CLOTH BAGS — zero waste option
Hemp and organic cotton reusable bags that block fine particles while allowing full extraction. On Amazon search: hemp organic cotton reusable tea bag large.
CHEESECLOTH — always available
Cut a square of unbleached cheesecloth, place herbs in the center, gather the corners and tie with kitchen twine. Available at any grocery store.
FINE MESH STRAINER OVER THE CUP — simplest method
No bag needed. Brew herbs loose in any vessel and pour through a fine mesh kitchen strainer into your cup. Most people already have one. The easiest setup of all.
FRENCH PRESS — no straining needed
Herbs go directly in. Press and pour. Nothing extra required.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
RAMP-UP PROTOCOL AND WHAT TO EXPECT
Total protocol length: 6 months restoration phase, then 1 cup daily ongoing for maintenance.
This is important to read before you begin. Most people who quit a wellness protocol quit in the first two weeks because they do not know what normal looks like. Read this section so you know exactly what to expect at every stage and why.
WEEK 1 — Start Low, 1 Cup Daily
Use half the normal amount of dandelion root and chicory root. All other herbs at full amounts. One cup per day in the morning with or after food.
What you may notice: Changes in bowel movements are usually the first sign — more regularity, less straining, better-formed stools. Some people notice reduced bloating by the end of the first week. You may also experience temporary increased gas in the first few days as your microbiome begins shifting to accommodate the increased prebiotic fiber. This is completely normal and a sign the formula is working. It passes within a few days for most people. If it is uncomfortable, reduce the dandelion root and chicory root further and increase more slowly.
How you may feel: Not dramatically different yet. The changes happening in week one are mostly below the surface — microbial populations beginning to shift, the gut wall beginning to receive consistent support. Some people notice a subtle sense of their digestion feeling lighter or less effortful after meals.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
WEEK 2 — Build Up, 1 to 2 Cups Daily
Increase dandelion root and chicory root to three-quarters of the normal amount. Add a second cup if your body is responding comfortably.
What you may notice: Bloating continues to reduce. Bowel movements become more consistent and comfortable. Energy often begins to stabilize toward the end of this week.
How you may feel: Most people describe a subtle but real shift in how digestion feels after meals. Less heaviness, less awareness of the digestive process. The afternoon energy crash begins to soften for many people — not dramatically, but noticeably. The gut is not fully restored yet but it is starting to function differently and that difference is beginning to be felt.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
WEEKS 3 AND 4 — Full Formula, Up to 3 Cups Daily
Full amounts of all herbs. Build gradually to three cups daily. Morning, midday, and evening cups work well for most people.
What you may notice: More noticeable energy improvement. Some people begin noticing clearer skin around this point. Sleep quality often improves, particularly for people taking the evening cup as chamomile begins supporting overnight gut recovery and circadian alignment. Mood tends to stabilize — less irritability, more baseline steadiness throughout the day.
How you may feel: Week three is where most people turn the corner. The cumulative effect of consistent daily support begins to show up in ways that are hard to ignore. People often describe feeling more like themselves — not wired, not medicated, just more even. Digestion that used to require attention has become something that simply happens in the background the way it is supposed to. This is the week where people who stuck with it become believers.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
MONTH 2 — Full Formula, 3 Cups Daily
What you may notice: Systemic inflammation beginning to drop. Joint comfort may improve for people who had chronic low-grade joint issues. Skin continues to improve. Brain clarity continues to build. People often begin noticing they are recovering from illness faster or getting sick less frequently as gut immune function strengthens.
How you may feel: The changes from the first month have settled into a new baseline. People at this stage often forget how they felt before they started — until something reminds them. Energy is consistently better. The background discomfort that chronic gut issues create — that vague unwell feeling that is hard to name but unmistakable when it is gone — is largely absent by month two for most people who have followed the protocol consistently.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
MONTH 3 AND BEYOND — Full Formula, 3 Cups Daily
What you may notice: Hormonal stability often improves during this phase as the gut's ability to metabolize and recirculate hormones normalizes. Fewer food sensitivities for many people. Better tolerance of foods that previously caused issues. Continued skin improvement. The immune system operating with less urgency and more precision.
How you may feel: By month three most people have a clear sense of the difference between how they feel now and how they felt before they started. The results are not dramatic in the way a stimulant is dramatic. They are foundational. The body is simply working better at a level most people had stopped expecting was possible. That steadiness — that quiet sense of the body doing what it is supposed to do without effort or complaint — is what gut restoration actually feels like.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
MONTH 6 AND BEYOND — Maintenance, 1 Cup Daily
Full formula amounts at one cup daily for ongoing long-term support. The gut operates in a modern food system that works against it every single day — processed food, pesticides, environmental toxins, chronic stress, and antibiotic exposure are ongoing realities. One daily cup maintains the environment you spent six months building and protects it going forward.

SAFETY INFORMATION
LICORICE ROOT — MEDICATION INTERACTIONS
At the dose used in this formula, licorice root is well within established safety limits. High daily doses of licorice above 100mg glycyrrhizin per day can affect how certain medications are metabolized in the liver and may raise blood pressure over time. The amount of licorice root in this formula stays well below that threshold even at three cups daily. Anyone taking multiple prescription medications should consult their physician before use.
GINGER ROOT — BLOOD THINNERS
At tea doses, ginger does not meaningfully affect blood thinning for most people. However, anyone taking anticoagulant medications — including warfarin (Coumadin), dabigatran (Pradaxa), or rivaroxaban (Xarelto) — should consult their physician before using ginger daily at therapeutic doses.
ASTERACEAE FAMILY ALLERGY
Chamomile belongs to the Asteraceae plant family. Anyone with a known allergy to plants in this family — including ragweed, chrysanthemums, and marigolds — should use caution and consult a healthcare provider before use.
PREGNANCY AND NURSING
Pregnant or nursing women should consult their physician or a qualified herbalist before using any herbal formula, including this one.
CHILDREN
This formula is formulated for adults. Consult a qualified healthcare provider before giving herbal teas to children.
