October 15, 2017 - Ahem, ahem... is this thing on?! The #bcedchat moderator team goes LIVE with Google Hangouts!
This live conversation was taking place while the Twitter chat went on, allowing chat participants to get to know us a little bit, and for us to share our thoughts on the chat questions openly.
Some of our very favourite chats challenge participants to create learning artifacts with Web 2.0 tools and apps. From Canva to Giphy and Meme Generators, these chats are fun, hands-on, and engaging!
Chats are framed around utilizing humour, creating visual anchor charts or guides, or just getting the class rules to seem more relatable or engaging.
March 26, 2017 - #bcedchat 134 took us deep into reflecting on how to promote student self assessment with the BC Core Competencies. During this chat, Jan and Craig shared an editable Core Competencies Google Slides file, where participants added their ideas on how to get students reflecting. This resource became extremely valuable very quickly, and several teachers use it to springboard their ideas for integrating the Core Competencies into instruction. (Archive Part 1 & Archive Part 2)
Every summer, the #bcedchat moderator team takes a break from leading the learning, but not without leaving participants a little something to ponder. The team concocts a list of questions that will be slowly released week by week throughout the summer in a "slow chat" format. In recent years, the broader community has also shared questions. Linked archives of summer slow chats can be found below. Some years are missing due to archives not being created at the time.
January 10, 2016 - One of our wishes is always to keep the chat new, fresh, and interesting. It's hard when you do the same format day in and day out for ALL Twitter chats!
Christine and Victoria came up with the idea to get #bcedchat participants to form a structured inquiry for themselves during the chat, and then scheduling a separate check-in or two later in the year to see how it was going.
