Nate, a BCB community member living in Summit County, works as a ski instructor for Breckenridge Resort and has been a great local addition to our community in the Backcountry Bayit. His love for Jewish community has truly been an inspiration to all of us so far this season.
My life back home in Cleveland was very Jewishly involved. I attended Jewish day school, was president of my Jewish youth group, went to Jewish camp and worked there every summer until I came west. Shabbat dinner was a regular occurrence in my family. A year and a half ago, I decided to move to Summit county and for the most part has been an awesome decision. I found work I truly love. I’ve experienced the mountains in a way that surpassed my high expectations. I’ve met incredible people from all over the world and have reached a new level of health and happiness.
Everything had been going extremely well until I experienced a few anti-Semitic situations which left me feeling scared and alone. Then a friend told me about BCB. I came to my first Shabbat dinner just two weeks ago and the moment I walked in, it didn’t matter that I knew no one, I felt at home.
The BCB has truly created an inclusive environment and home base for the Jews of Summit county. It is a wonderful place whether you live here and come every week or just stop by when passing through. I am so grateful that something like this exists and to know that I am not the only Jewish mountain man out here.
