I am Berta Caihuelas Navajas, a PhD in Social Sciences from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. I am currently a Postdoctoral Researcher for the EXPRESS2 Horizon Project at UC3M.
My thesis focuses on the influence of contexts on political behavior by socio-economic status, supervised by Juan J. Fernández (UC3M) and Antonio Jaime-Castillo (UNED), and funded by an FPI grant from the Ministry of Science and Innovation.
My research interests center on unequal political participation, particularly voter turnout, and political inequalities related to socio-economic status and gender. As part of the EXPRESS2 Horizon Project, my current work also examines political and institutional trust.
During my pre-doctoral period, I taught several courses at UC3M, which I have greatly enjoyed. Additionally, I have collaborated as a research assistant on the Twice As Good Project, led by Susan Banducci. This involved fieldwork for an ethnographic study on women’s experiences in politics during electoral campaigns. Collaborating on this project provided me with valuable insights into qualitative research.
In the fall of 2022, I visited the Social Scienes Department of the European University Institute in Florence under the supervision of Filip Kostelka. I also conducted a research stay at the Universitat de Barcelona, supervised by Macarena Ares.
