Head Coach: Jeff Bigler biglerj@elmbrookschools.org
Assistant Coaches: Terry Needham, Jake King, Scott Huntley & Tom Hoffman
7/9 - The Lancers got back on their home turf on Thursday afternoon and could not muster enough offense to make a game of it, going down to the Menomonee Falls Jr. Burgandy team 8-3. After two hits in the first inning, BC could only manage one in the final six frames. On the mound, Brendan Lange worked four solid innings, scattering four hits with only two walks. The Lancers play in the Bigler Summer Slam this weekend with home games starting at 10am on Saturday.
7/5 - What a game! The USSSA-AA Championship Game had a lot of everything...from good pitching, to big defensive plays, clutch hitting and dramatic moments that make the game great. The roller coaster that the Lancers rode during this game was amazing...after jumping out to a 2-0 lead on singles by Brendan Lange and Connor McGowan as well as a double by Braylan Bigler, BC quickly found themselves staring at an 11-3 deficit after 2 1/2 innings of play. The Lancers would not relent and came back with 10 runs of their own in the next two frames...big hits included multiple run scoring doubles by Bobby King, Bigler, Nate Huntley, Sean Needham...run scoring singles by Lange, Jordan Haise, McGowan, Vinnie Curasi, Luke Daline, Needham, and Sean Beug-Hoffman. BC, however could not make the one run lead stick and found themselves in a 13-13 tie after six innings of play with the time limit up. A unique style of California rule with runners at 2nd & 3rd was implemented and the Bourbannais Braves from Illinois pounced with five runs in the top of the extra frame. But, as Yogi famously said, "It ain't over 'till it's over"... a SAC fly by Sean Beug-Hoffman started the scoring, however that left BC with two outs and a man on second down four. Bobby King worked a walk and Brendan Lange was hit by a pitch to load the bases...next hitter Braylan Bigler walked to the plate and drove the first pitch of the at bat, sending a sizzling line drive over the left center field fence for a Grand Slam, tying the game and sending the BC faithful into hysteria! However the job was not done yet...Jordan Haise drove a base hit up the middle and stole second with the winning run...catcher Connor McGowan then stepped to the plate and worked the count, fouling off several pitches before scorching a no doubt double to right center, scoring Haise with the winning run and the celebration was on! Words do not do this game justice as it was as some media outlets would call an "instant classic". Major congrats go to these boys who battled for four days in the 90+ degree heat(over 100 on the turf) to win this USSSA-AA title!
7/5 - BC found themselves in a tight defensive battle of wills in the semi-final game of the USSSA-AA World Series in Bettendorf, IA on Sunday. The Lancers threatened in the second, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, only to be turned away by good defense or an "ATEM" ball that found the opponents glove. It came down to the bottom of the seventh with BC down 1-0, Vinnie Curasi led the inning off, working the count and getting the crucial base on balls...after stealing second and third, Luke Daline laid down a perfect bunt, scoring Curasi....Daline's bunt was misplayed and thrown down the right field line, allowing Luke to scurry all the way to third. With the game tied 1-1, Nate Huntley drilled a 3-1 fastball to the gap in left-center, scoring Daline and starting the celebration with a walk off 2-1 victory over the Illinois Steel. Starting pitcher Jordan Haise was a bulldog on the mound, going four strong innings without yielding a hit or a walk with one strikeout...Daline came in for the final three frames only allowing one hit with one free pass. The BC defense was spectacular all game long, making play after play with the infield of Braylan Bigler(3B), Bobby King(SS), Huntley(2B), and Brendan Lange(1B) at the top of their game. The thrilling victory propels the Lancers to Championship game at 5:10pm!
7/4 - Well, it is Iowa, however I don't think Braylan Bigler was hearing voices in the corn...however the BC pitcher recovered from a choppy first inning and proceeded to toss a complete game for the Lancers in the second round of the USSSA-AA World Series winners bracket. Bigler fanned three and scattered six hits in getting the win as the right hander used 101 pitches to close out the Bourbonnais Braves from Illinois 4-2! After going down 1-0, BC jumped back in front 2-1 on a Bobby King leadoff walk, scoring on a Brendan Lange RBI groundout...Bigler then singled and scored on a Connor McGowan single up the middle. The Lancers added one more run in the third as King singled and was driven home again by Lange. Bigler then helped his own cause with an insurance run in the fifth, driving home Lange who had singled, with a ground rule double down the left field line for the final run of the game. McGowan had two hits for the game and provided some excellent defense behind the plate...Bigler was 3-3 at the plate and Vinnie Curasi added a base hit for the Lancers. With the win, BC advances to the semi-final game of the USSSA-AA World Series, taking on the winner of a losers bracket game at 1:30pm Sunday.
7/4 - BC used a steady combination of pitching, defense and timely hitting to win the opening round bracket game in Iowa today. Pitcher Jordan Haise secured another win on the mound, going three shutout innings, striking out two. Luke Daline was his usual steady self, also going three innings without yielding a run and Sean Beug-Hoffman came on to close out the Naplate Titans from Illinois by a final score of 7-2. The defense set the tone in the top of the first with a nifty 6(Bobby King), 4(Nate Huntley), 3(Brendan Lange) double play! In all, the D would make 16 put outs without a miscue in securing the win. The bats banged out nine hits in the game with Vinnie Curasi (2RBI's), and Sean Needham(2B, RBI) collecting multiple hits...Huntley blasted a rocket for a ground rule double in the 6 run first inning. The win moved BC through to the winners bracket as the Lancers will face the Bourbonnais Braves in the next round of action at 11:40am.
7/3 - With five games in three days the Lancers knew that it was all hands on deck on the hill. Nate Huntley started the game and pitched well, working 3 2/3 innings, scattering five hits, striking out two with only four earned runs. Brendan Lange came on in relief and kept BC in the game in the final 2 1/3, striking out a hitter and only yielding two runs. It was a seesaw affair as the Lancers jumped out to a six run lead, only to see it dissapear as Illinois Valley scored five of their own in the second. After going up 7-5 in the top of the fourth, a sloppy bottom of the inning defensively allowed Illinois Valley to seize control of the game 11-7. BC would not quit, however a late rally fell short and the Lancers would wind up on the losing end of an 11-10 game. Lange (2RBI's), Braylan Bigler (2RBI's), and Luke Daline (RBI) had multiple hit games. The loss put BC's record at 2-1 for pool play and the Lancers earned the nine seed in a 23 team tournament. Bracket play is now slated for the 4th of July with an 8am game against the Naplate Titans(IL) at TBK Sports Bank Athletic Complex.
7/2 - The Lancers kept their mojo going in the second game of the USSSA-AA World Series in large part to the hot bat of Connor McGowan...BC's catcher was 2-3, blasting two doubles and driving in four Lancers as BC completed the first day of pool play with a 8-2 victory over the EMP Panthers (IL). Sean Beug-Hoffman looked impressive on the mound for the Lancers, showing some impressive velocity in striking out four Panther hitters in three innings. BC relied on pitcher Vinnie Curasi to shoulder the most innings on the day as he worked another four complete with four strikeouts to notch the win. Bobby King was driving the ball with power again as King drilled a double off the center field fence and Braylan Bigler collected yet another multiple hit game, his 8th in 14 games. Nate Huntley and Jordan Haise both had a hit and an RBI for BC. The Lancers have now won eight straight ballgames and improved the overall record to 10-4 on the season. BC will now take on the Illinois Valley Titans in the final pool play game at 11:40am tomorrow morning in Iowa.
7/2 - The Lancers made the trek to Bettendorf, IA to compete in the USSSA-AA World Series and made the most of the trip on the opening day! BC once again used a winning formula of solid pitching, timely hitting, and steady defensive play to defeat the Northwest Iowa Badgers in the opening pool play game. Brendan Lange (2B) was the only Lancer with multiple hits, however Connor McGowan delivered the knockout punch with a two out, two RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the fifth to propel BC to a 8-3 victory. Jordan Haise turned in his usual steady performance, getting the win with a strong 3 inning start, striking out three without a walk. Luke Daline has been racking up stellar performances on the hill as well...Luke worked three innings with two K's without a walk. Vinnie Curasi came on in the seventh with a perfect three strikeouts to finish the game. Bobby King provided some pop at the top of the lineup with a ringing double to right.
6/30 - After a rocky top of the first with too many free passes and a couple miscues, BC got the game right back to even at 3-3 after one inning of play with clutch RBI singles by Luke Daline and Nate Huntley. After finding themselves down 5-4 going into the bottom of the third, the Lancers surged for 11 runs on six hits...breaking the game wide open and winning by another 10 run rule, 16-5 over the Jr. Hamilton Chargers. Vinnie Curasi provided two solid innings on the mound, striking out two in getting the win...Daline delivered yet another steady performance with two innings pitched (1K, 0BB). The Lancer bats stayed red hot with 13 hits as a team...Bobby King (2-3, RBI), Braylan Bigler (3-4, 2B, 3RBI), Connor McGowan (2-2, 2B, 2RBI), and Elliot DePons (2-2, RBI) all had multiple hit games. With the win, BC is 6-0 in the WSYBL and now hits the road to participate in the USSSA-AA World Series in Bettendorf, IA, with an 8am game on Thursday against the Northwest Iowa Badgers.
6/28 - Lead off man Bobby King led an explosion of base hits for the Lancers in the 2nd game of a DH on Sunday...King went 3-4 with 2RBI's and a booming double to the warning track in deep right field as the Lancers trounced Merton 18-1. All ten BC hitters notched a base hit with Brendan Lange (2B, 2RBI's), Braylan Bigler (2B, 3R's), Jordan Haise (4RBI's), and Sean Needham (3RBI's) all collecting multiple hits. Sean Beug-Hoffman battled on the mound in getting the win, coming back from difficult counts and working hard to strike out seven Maverick hitters in four innings. Luke Daline came on to record the final three outs of the ballgame. With the win, BC improves to 5-0 in the WSYBL, and 7-4 overall. The Lancers have a gaudy 76 runs scored vs. only 18 given up in the league. WSYBL play continues on Tuesday when BC welcomes the Sussex Jr. Chargers to the Ballpark at BC for a 6pm start.
6/28 - The Lancers finally got to complete the rain out from the previous Tuesday and picked up with a tight 1-1 ballgame in the bottom of the 3rd. After Bobby King and Brendan Lange both got aboard with two outs, Braylan Bigler sent a ringing double to the gap in left center, plating both Lancers and seizing the momentum of the game...BC never looked back and cruised to defeat the Merton Mavericks in the first game of a DH 11-1. Pitcher Jordan Haise produced yet another quality start on the mound, going the distance on the hill, striking out six with only one free pass! At the plate, Bigler (3-3, 2 2B's, 2RBI's) & Vinnie Curasi (2-2) had multiple hit games, while Luke Daline (2 R's) & Sean Beug-Hoffman (2RBI's) also got in the hit column. The win kept BC's league record perfect at 4-0.
6/21 - The Jr. Lancers continued the win streak on a sunny Father's Day afternoon, using a seven run 2nd inning to separate themselves from Tosa East. Singles by Luke Daline, Nate Huntley, Vinnie Curasi, Elliot DePons, and Braylan Bigler all contributed to the seven run surge. The Lancers finished the deal with a six run fifth with Connor McGowan's RBI single being the highlight. BC collected 11 hits as a team with Huntley, and DePons collecting two RBI's each. Bigler started on the hill and got the win despite allowing seven walks to go with his three strikeouts...Daline finished up a clean frame with one walk and one strikeout. The Lancers will play two on Tuesday afternoon as the Merton Mavericks come to McCoy park in Brookfield for a 4pm start for game 1.
6/18 - The Lancers played their first true road game of the season, taking on the Mequon Boss on Thursday evening and Jordan Haise did everything except sell popcorn in leading BC to a convincing 19-8 victory. Haise started on the hill and went five strong innings, striking out five while only walking one in getting the win...at the plate Haise banged out two hits with four RBI's including a bases clearing double that broke the game wide open. BC belted out 16 hits as a team as Brendan Lange had a five hit game to go with his three RBI's. Connor McGowan(RBI) and Sean Beug-Hoffman(2B, 4RBI's) also had multiple hit games for the Lancers. Braylan Bigler came on to record the final six outs of the game striking out four. The Lancers welcome the Tosa East Jr. Raiders to the Ballpark at BC on Sunday for a 1pm league game.
6/16 - Luke Daline made sure BC got off to a 1-0 start in league play on Tuesday night, going 2-2 at the plate with four RBI's and pitching the final four innings to lock down a 15-5 win over Menomonee Falls! Luke's clutch two out single to center in the 3rd, knocking in two, was the catalyst to break the game open. Daline went right at the Falls hitters, facing 16, striking out three and only walking two. Catcher Connor McGowan got the bat going with two hits including a double and two RBI's. Jordan Haise(2RBI), and Sean Beug-Hoffman(R) also tallied multiple hit games. Owen Strebig scored three times for the victorious Lancers. Beug-Hoffman started on the mound and gutted through three innings, picking up the win with two strikeouts. BC travels to Mequon on Thursday for another league ballgame.
6/13 - BC earned the top spot in the lower bracket of the Stagecoach Classic with two solid pool play games. A very clear path to advance deep in the tournament got cloudy in a hurry as the Lancers had trouble making plays and gave the opponents too many free bases. After finding themselves down 9-3 in the bottom of the fifth, BC mounted a two out rally... after Elliot DePons and Bobby King walked...three straight base hits by Brendan Lange(3 RBI's), Braylan Bigler(RBI), and Jordan Haise(RBI) got BC to within 9-7. That would prove to be the final and the Lancers were bounced in the first round. Sean Beug-Hoffman relived Bigler in the fouth and dominated on the mound for 2 1/3 innings of work, striking out four! BC will finally get going with League play on Tuesday when the Lancers welcome Menomonee Falls to the ballpark at BC for a 6pm start.
6/12 - It appeared as if BC was going to build off of their earlier performance with a 1-2-3 inning out of the gate...however, after a couple of key miscues, BC found themselves down early. After three innings of play and staring at a 4-0 deficit, Lancer hitters finally got on track with three straight singles by Bobby King, Brendan Lange, and Braylan Bigler to cut the lead to 4-2. However, a four run top of the fifth by the Minnesota Blizzard Elite was more than they needed to put BC away by a final of 10-5. Pitcher Jordan Haise commanded his pitches with precision, working the counts and keeping a tough hitting lineup off balance. Haise finished with five strikeouts and only one walk as he deserved a better fate. King(3B), and Bigler(RBI) had multiple hit games while Luke Daline, Sean Needham, Haise, and Sean Beug-Hoffman all had base hits for BC. The Lancers are the top seed in the consolation bracket and will play win or go home baseball tomorrow with a 10:30am start.
6/12 - Pitcher Vinnie Curasi took the hill on Friday afternoon and set the tone for the game with a 1-2-3 opening frame. BC took the lead 2-0 in the bottom of the first and never looked back, winning via the 10-run rule 13-2 over the GRB-White team out of Madison. The Lancers hit the ball well and with power, belting out nine hits, and using six walks by GRB pitchers. Jordan Haise was a perfect 2-2 with a double and an RBI. Bobby King(RBI), Braylan Bigler(2RBI), Luke Daline(3B, RBI), Nate Huntley(2B, RBI), Curasi(RBI), and Sean Beug-Hoffman(2R) all had hits. Elliot DePons tallied back to back sacrifice flies to notch his 2 RBI's. Curasi went the distance on the mound striking out two while allowing three walks.
6/7 - The Lancers looked ready right out of the gate scoring three runs in top of the first with Bobby King(1B), Braylan Bigler(1B), Brendan Lange(BB), Owen Strebig(1B,RBI), and Connor McGowan(RBI) giving BC the early edge. Unfortunately, that was the last time a Lancer runner would cross the plate and BC was on the losing end of an 8-3 game against a quality opponent from Mokena, IL. Surrendering the big inning was again the issue as all of BC's miscues were bunched into a 6 run second frame. Bigler looked in mid season form on the mound, mixing his pitches brilliantly and almost going the distance, 5 2/3, with 3 strikeouts and only one free pass. Sean Beug-Hoffman came on to record the final out in the sixth. Vinnie Curasi notched a base hit for the second consecutive day and catcher Connor McGowan gunned down a runner at third base. BC will need to work on the approach at the plate as 15 strikeouts will need to be improved on. The Lancers open up league play on Tuesday as the Merton Mavericks come to Krueger Park for a 6pm contest.
6/6 - It was a beautiful day for baseball and the Lancer hitters made the most of the it with a barrage of base hits en route to a 14-5 victory over the East Troy Knights. Nine BC hitters notched at least one hit with Brendan Lange (3-3, 2B, RBI), Owen Strebig (3-3, RBI), Connor McGowan (2-2, RBI), Luke Daline (2-2, 3RBI), and Jordan Haise (2-2, 4RBI) all registering multiple hit games. Winning pitcher Vinnie Curasi battled through a rocky start and struck out six in three innings of work. Sean Beug-Hoffman came on and threw the ball well to close out the game for the Lancers. BC earned the five seed in pool play and will face off against the Mokena Blaze in a quarterfinal elimination game starting at 1:30pm tomorrow!
6/5 - The season officially got underway on a beautiful Friday evening at Pabst Farms in Ocomomowoc with Pool play against GRB's best Milwaukee area team. Our U13 Lancers Royal team traded scoreless innings before going down by two in the third, only to come back in the top of the fourth and cut the lead to 2-1. A rocky bottom of the fourth saw BC surrender five runs on a couple of miscues, however this Lancer team would not roll over as a furious comeback fell one run short in a 7-6 loss. The rally started with two outs when Sean Beug-Hoffman drew a walk, followed by a ringing single to left by Elliot DePons...after infield singles by Bobby King, Brendan Lange, and Braylan Bigler, Owen Strebig laced a rope to left driving in two and putting the tying run on second before it was over. Jordan Haise started on the hill for BC and pitched brilliantly...mixing his pitches going 3 2/3 with four strikeouts and only one free pass in taking the tough luck loss. Luke Daline came on to close out the final 1 2/3 keeping the Lancers in the game with three strikeouts of his own. BC gets back to business in pool play tomorrow against East Troy at 1:30pm.
6/2 - BC traveled to Glendale on Tuesday night for the final dress rehearsal to the season and played like a team ready for the season to start. All four pitchers showed well on the mound...Jordan Haise, Vinnie Curasi, Braylan Bigler, and Sean Beug-Hoffman all threw one inning. Brendan Lange(R) continued to swing a hot bat with two hits including a double, Bigler(RBI) and Haise(R) both singled. Bobby King scored two runs and Luke Daline added a Sac Fly offensively for the Lancers. The season officially starts on Friday evening at the Wild Pitch Weekend tournament in Oconomowoc, WI with a 6pm start.
5/30 - The young Lancers were building on another solid start Saturday night, taking a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the fourth when the wheels fell off. After the bottom of the inning was tallied up, BC was down 13-4. Pitcher Jordan Haise had his second quality outing on the hill going three strong with 2BB's and 2K's. Scotty Deskins, Brendan Lange, and Nate Huntley all got some action on the mound as well. The Lancers will get one more test run with a scrimmage on Tuesday night at Glendale starting at 5pm.
5/29 - Too many miscues and not enough strikes made for a long six inning scrimmage game on Friday night as the Lancers went down by a score of 18-9. BC could only manage three hits offensively as Jordan Haise (RBI), Brendan Lange, and Luke Daline (RBI) all singled for the Lancers. BC will be back in action again tomorrow evening, traveling to Richfield for another scrimmage starting at 6pm.
5/24 - The Lancers got the season underway on Sunday with a scrimmage against the Richfield Rockets. After a back and forth affair, the Lancers found themselves with a tight 9-8 advantage going into the bottom of the eighth inning. After a miscue a walk and a base hit, pitcher Jordan Haise was in a bases loaded jam with one out...Haise dug deep and got a strikeout and ground out to seal the victory for the Lancers! Catcher Connor McGowan collected two hits with two RBI's, and Brendan Lange also notched two hits and two RBI's. Braylan Bigler had the only extra base hit for the Lancers with a ringing double to right. Four pitchers all had solid performances on the hill...Bigler (4BB, 3K), Sean Beug-Hoffman (2BB, 2K), winning pitcher Vinnie Curasi (2BB, 3K), and Haise (1BB, 3K) with the save. The U13 Royal team will look to get one more scrimmage game in before WYSBL league action starts in June.
