Last updated
This Privacy Policy was last updated in 2026. We may update it from time to time; the new version will be available in the app. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.

1. Who we are
This Privacy Policy describes how the BBC Bitesize learning mobile application (the "App") handles information when you use it on your device. The App package identifier is com.bbc.apppp. The App is an offline-first study companion for learners from Primary through A-Level. It offers structured daily syllabi, revision notes, quizzes, progress tracking, and bookmarks. Core learning data is stored on your device unless you use features that explicitly send data elsewhere.

2. Scope
This policy applies to your use of the App. It explains what data may be processed, how it is used, how long it may be retained, and what choices you have. If you do not agree with this policy, please discontinue use of the App.

3. Data stored on your device
The App is designed to minimise collection of personal data. Notes, quiz attempts, study activity, saved questions, topic progress, and bookmarks are stored locally on your device using on-device databases (for example, Room/SQLite). This information typically remains on your device unless you export it or use a future feature that explicitly transmits data.

We do not require you to create an account to access the core offline learning features. If optional features (such as cloud backup, sign-in, or additional analytics) are introduced in a future release, this policy will be updated and, where required, you will be asked for consent before such processing begins.

4. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The App shows advertisements provided by Google AdMob (Google LLC). Depending on your settings and applicable law, Google may process identifiers and technical information to deliver and measure ads. This can include your device's advertising ID, IP-related signals used for approximate location, device and app identifiers, and interaction data related to ads (such as impressions and clicks). Google acts as an independent controller for much of this processing

The App may display banner ads, full-screen interstitial ads, and rewarded video ads at certain points in the experience, including before opening certain tools or learning sections. Rewarded ads may offer an in-app benefit after you choose to watch; whether you watch is optional.

You can limit ad personalisation on many Android devices via Settings (for example, Google > Ads, or Privacy > Ads, depending on your device). You can also reset your advertising ID in device settings. Limiting personalisation does not guarantee that you will see fewer ads, but ads may be less tailored to your interests.

5. Permissions
The App may request operating-system permissions only where necessary for stated functionality (for example, storage access for database files on certain devices, or notifications if such a feature is enabled). You can review and revoke permissions through your device settings; revoking permissions may limit App functionality.

6. Children and schools
The App may be suitable for learners of various ages, including children when used under appropriate supervision by parents, guardians, or educational institutions. Parents and educators should review device-level parental controls and supervise younger learners' use of digital study tools. If you believe we have inadvertently processed personal data relating to a child in breach of applicable law, please contact us using the details below.

7. Security
We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures appropriate to the nature of the App, including local storage for core learning data. No method of electronic storage is completely secure; users should protect device access with screen locks and keep operating systems updated.

8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under data protection law (for example, rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and data portability). Because much of your learning data is stored only on your device, you can often exercise control directly by clearing app data or uninstalling the App. For rights that require action by us, or for questions about AdMob processing by Google, contact us or Google as described in their policies.

9. International transfers
If future versions of the App process personal data on servers located outside your country, we will describe the safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) in an updated policy where required.

10. Contact
For privacy-related questions or requests about this App, please contact the publisher or data controller email address provided with your distribution of the App (for example, via the app store listing or organisation website). Replace this placeholder with a working contact before release.
