"Believe you can, and you're halfway there." - Theodore Roosevelt
Sketches
We started by sketching ideas we felt went with the theme, "Ignite your potential". As you can see our idea included fire, matches, fireworks, and a silhouette of a person. The person was to represent us watching the fireworks (our potential) after we have ignited it.
We put the ideas from the other sketches together to make a more complete idea. It had a firework rocket on the ground with the string taking you each step being a spark that brings you closer to the rocket.
Designing
These are some of the iterations we went through to get to what the board looks like now.
Our first iteration included a city, sunset, and was going to include fireworks. With the information towards the bottom on the ground. We do not have a more finished image of this because we decided to change the design. If you want to see what the design would have looked like see the Sketches section of this page.
To make the design less cramped we removed the city and placed the sunset lower on the board. We made a line for "Rocket Man" to follow and stop at each step.
To simplify the board we removed some text and included QR codes that take people to this website to learn more. Each step has a QR code to take you to the corresponding page on the website. We made the board a rectangle removing the unneeded blank space on the sides. We made the sky purple to make it look more like it was taking place at night.
Creating "Rocket Man"
Rocket man is the character who rides on a rocket showing us how to reach our potential. He wears the SkillsUSA uniform and represents anyone trying to reach their goals.Â
His design came from the initial idea of having a silhouette of a person looking up at the fireworks. In this picture we were sketching out the different ways rocket man could ride on the rocket.
