Hello! Thanks for visiting my website.
My love for the harp began in my grandparents’ basement, where a small Paraguayan folk harp resided next to the couch. I frequently visited the harp and stared in wonder at the strings. I started lessons in Utah when I was ten years old and continued to study the harp at Manhattan School of Music, where I received Master and Bachelor of Music degrees. New York was full of musical adventures for me, performing everywhere from the lawns of central park to Carnegie Hall. Since graduating, my harp and I have been busy performing as a substitute in orchestras, at weddings, in churches, and a few other surprising places.
One of the most gratifying aspects of my music career has been my ten years of teaching music. I started teaching at the ripe old age of 16, took a few years off during school, and returned during my last few years at Manhattan School of Music. I have worked with students ages 3 to adult in group and individual settings. Formerly as a classroom teacher in an El Sistema-inspired program, and currently with my private harp/piano studio, I love to solve musical problems, play theory games and explore new repertoire with my students. I use the Music Mind Games materials, which are ideal for in-person learning. Since COVID-19 hit, I have been teaching lessons online, which has forced me to adapt the games to the online environment. This has opened up a whole new world of possibilities. Since Music Mind Games are always my students' favorite part of the lesson, I want to make them available to you online!
I am a mom of two loquacious girls (well one is just a baby, but she already babbles a lot) who keep me laughing. I love cats, and I would definitely have more than one if my husband would agree to it. I enjoy baking (and especially eating) bread, cookies and cakes. My favorite thing to watch is Avatar the Last Airbender (I think I would be a water bender, although I think earth bending looks the coolest). I have lived in six states, and my next stop is California. I have been attempting to learn German for about 15 years. I'll get there one day.
I attended public school until I was 15. Although I had many wonderful experiences in public school, I frequently felt frustrated by the inefficient use of time. I also wanted to spend more time practicing, because I knew my goal was to pursue music professionally. For these reasons I started a homeschool correspondance course, which was a perfect fit for me. I was able to work at my own pace, which allowed me to graduate a year early. I love the way homeschooling develops children into curious people who love learning, rather than result-driven people whose primary goal is to achieve high test scores. I understand that homeschooling parents want to provide a flexible and joyful education for their children. For these reasons I have designed my classes with homeschoolers in mind.
These classes are designed by me with the goal of making online music study fun and interactive for students. My rhythm curriculum draws heavily from the Music Mind Games materials. To learn more about Music Mind Games, check out their website here.
