We are a program designed at meeting the needs of the individual student. We will support a variety of students in the building including those that are credit deficient, students recovering previously taken courses, have medical or mental health accommodations, etc.
Our program runs individual courses through the Google Classroom platform. Depending on the student the structure and delivery of the course will change from person to person. We will continuously evolve our programming to meet the needs of our students.
The Personalized Alternative Education Program at Bayview Secondary School offers a variety of programming including; Semestered In-class Instruction, Community Based Education (ALEP), and Credit Recovery.
Semestered In-Class Instruction
We run both compulsory and elective courses for students through a digital platform. Students work independently through the course material. Course work is tailored to meet the needs of the individual student. We provided flexibility in timetabling by offering both full PAE timetables as well as hybrid options with traditionally run courses.
ALEP
This is an Alternative Learning Program where students can earn cooperative education credits through their employment (part-time or full-time). These credits can be combined with course work on a compulsory credit where the student comes to class 1 day per week.
Credit Recovery
Credit recovery is offered to students that have previously been unsuccessful in a course. This provides students an opportunity to complete missing course work or improve their understanding of the course content. Upon completion of this work the student will earn the credit. This can be completed in a short time period or can take the length of the semester depending on the individual students situation.
