50th Bay High School Class Reunion
The reunion is now history, but the memories will last a LONG time. This was the BIG 5-0 event - so hopefully everyone who attended thought it was worth their time and effort. All events were casual.
Friday evening Cocktail Party - July 26, 2019 - we got reacquainted with classmates at the home of Karen Hansen Dade in Bay; 6:00-10:00; Hors d'oevres, beer and wine! THANK YOU, Karen, for hosting the perfect kick-off event!
Saturday evening:
Main Event - July 27, 2019 - Fuller House located by the old Huntington Playhouse; 6:00-11:00; BBQ dinner, beer and wine! (Click here for a history of the Fuller House.) This was a wonderful venue with some fun history and a perfect layout for our needs - lots of room to spread out for visits, but good space to feel like we were all together.
Returning by popular demand - our favorite BayWay band - THE OTHERS - Bill Papworth, John Kogge, and Larry Galazin from the class of 1968, and our very own Dave Dixon and Ray Schilens. They pounded out lots of our favorite tunes for well over an hour during the evening - it was MUCH fun!
Sunday morning Farewell Brunch - July 28, 2019 - 9am-noon; at the home of Linda Glaesel Kazen in Westlake. Delicious brunch food and drinks. THANK YOU, Linda, for hosting the perfect send-off event!
What else we did that weekend:
Some went on a Lolley The Trolley tour of Cleveland. The weather was perfect for this wonderful opportunity to remember how Cleveland has changed and improved over the years.
Some went on a 10:00 Saturday tour of the high school, led by the current Athletic Director, Matt Spellman. It was great fun to relive our days when WE were students at Bay High.
Some played golf.
Some visited family and friends.
Some did a drive around Bay - checking out the old sites.
Special Thank-You To...
Georgia (Karen’s granddaughter) and Erin (Shirley Bogner’s daughter) for being our very capable photographers.
Janalee Brennan James, Karen Hansen Dade and Linda Glaesel Kazen for being the hometown coordinators for this special event. Thanks to Nancy Burbach Flowers for so capably handling the funds again this year. And thanks to all other local folks for stepping in to help with set up, clean up, pick up of items, drop off of items, etc. etc. etc. A special shout out to Dennis Barrett for helping with the wine, and to Sue Stewart Popadak, Donna Clark Alexander, Sue Hunsdorf Brondos, and Max Gruber for extra efforts with set up and clean up. It was a team effort!
Posey Eitzen for preparing an amazing memorial for those students who have left us: thirty-two blue and white votives for each one of those students. Very sobering. See the pictures and memorials posted within this site.
Sandi Blankner Gorman for her efforts keeping everyone connected and informed.
Greg Ellis, Terri Mathes Baugus, Carla Hirschfeld Mattmiller, Randy Perry, and Kirk Gorman for helping to "find" some of our lost classmates.
(We have included the information below just to keep track of what we did for this reunion.)
Registering for the Reunion - IMPORTANT!!
We will need to provide official numbers to the Friday and Sunday hosts, as well as to the Fuller House, so everyone is encouraged to get their RSVPs in ASAP. To collect all the required info, we are asking you to complete TWO different RSVP forms (both are easy and have different purposes), AND mail your $125 per person payment to us. Information about each is below:
PAYMENT - REQUIRED
Cost for the 3-day event will be $125 per person. The cost is the same whether you come to one event or all 3 events. A number of classmates have donated private funds to keep the per person cost low for the rest of the class - so to make it easier on everyone we will have just the one price. Please send your check made payable to Nancy (Burbach) Flowers, and mail it to her at 31998 Pondside Dr, Avon Lake, OH 44012.
RSVP FORM - REQUIRED
Everyone PLEASE click on this link and fill out the RSVP form, so we can gather RSVPs for the Friday cocktail hour and the Sunday brunch (the Evite doesn't do that), and so we can gauge interest in some possible additional events over the reunion weekend. (Even if you aren't attending you can fill out the top part of this form so we can confirm your contact info!) When you are finished with this form PLEASE also complete the official evite!
OFFICIAL EVITE - REQUIRED
We have created an online evite so for at least the main event everyone can track who else is coming. Evites only allow us to include one event - so we chose the Saturday event. Please note that there may be something on the Evite about bringing a gift - we can't seem to delete that. There is no gift! Ignore that request!
To see who is coming to the Saturday night event - just go to "VIEW INVITE" and along the left side click on GUESTS - that will show you the list of those who have responded. Hopefully seeing all your classmates responding for at least Saturday night will encourage you to attend!
Hotel for the 50th Reunion
We have reserved a block of 30 rooms at the DoubleTree by Hilton (Cleveland-Westlake) for the time of our reunion. We have the rooms for Friday, July 26, 2019 and Saturday, July 27, 2019. You can request one or both nights. There are both king size rooms and rooms with 2 double beds. Breakfast is included with this reservation (get a coupon at check-in). The rooms are $99/night (plus taxes).
Other details:
Call the hotel directly at 440-871-6000 to reserve your rooms. Mention that you are part of the Bay HS Class of '69. (What a unique name!)
The hotel is located at 1100 Crocker Rd., Westlake
These rooms and this special rate is available through June 26, 2019.
If you want to use a different hotel that is totally fine! We did check around other hotels in this area and found this price to be the best offered. Nearby there is a Holiday Inn Express, a Hyatt Place, and a Red Roof Inn. Others are available if you want to go a little farther out. We choose the Double Tree because of price, location, the rooms were nice, and we thought the lobby area/pool would be very nice for classmates just wanting to hang out and visit.
