Bay Area WASH Symposium 2017

This symposium brings together researchers working on water, health, and sanitation (WASH) from UC Berkeley, Stanford, UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, and other Bay Area institutions.

This year, the event is student organized and will have a somewhat informal structure where participants will have an opportunity to share information about current and future projects, to identify opportunities for new collaborations, and to foster dialogue and networking within and across our institutions.

Additionally, there will be a panel discussion on job opportunities in the WASH sector.

Note: The symposium presentation slots are full. At our current number of RSVPs the venue will be at maximum capacity.

FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS

Who is coordinating the WASH symposium this year? A team of UC Berkeley graduate students are organizing the symposium this year: Sharada Prasad (ERG), Rachel Sklar (SPH), Yoshika Crider (ERG), Chris Hyun (ERG), Siva Bandaru (CEE), Erica Fuhrmeister (CEE), and Swati Rayasam (SPH). Unfortunately, Isha, Jenna, and Kara (who usually organize the event) are not able to participate in this year's symposium.
What should I bring to the symposium? Water bottle, pen, paper, and WASH-related joy and happiness. Presenters also bring an extra digital copy of your presentation and a haiku (see below).
What kind of food will be at the symposium? There will be coffee and snacks in the morning, vegetarian and vegan options during lunch, and vegetarian during our informal dinner (i.e. pizza and salad). Please make sure you have indicated on the form sent to you on March 27th and 30th that you will be joining us for dinner.
Bio info & photo: By Sunday April 2nd, please fill out your bio information in the form and upload your photo via the Dropbox link in our email from March 27th and 30th.
I didn't get an email about the bio info or uploading my photo. Some participants found the email in their spam box. We sent everyone a reminder email with the same information on Thursday March 30th night. If you did not get an email, then please contact us directly. See contact info below.
Is there WiFi? Yes? UC Berkeley provides password-free WiFi access to all campus guests via the SSID "CalVisitor." We cannot guarantee that it will work. Eduroam and AT&T are also available for their members. See all campus WiFi options here.

FOR PRESENTERS

How long will I have for my presentation? For those signed up for a 15-min presentation, please limit your time to 13 minutes (9 minutes for presentation, 4 minutes for Q&A) due to time constraints. For the 5-min presentations, remember to keep 4 minutes for presentation and 1 minute for Q&A.
How will my slideshow be projected? All slideshows will be presented via a single computer. They will be shown on a large monitor (not on a projector), so please keep fonts fairly large.
Where do I send in my presentation? Presenters have been sent a link on Saturday April 1st to upload their presentation. If you didn't receive this email, then please email us ASAP. We need your presentation (PDF and PPT formats only) by Monday April 3rd night.
When will I know the order of presentations? See below for the most updated schedule.
Do I have to write a haiku? As a fun option for a full day of presentations, we encourage every presenter to give a few seconds to introduce their research in a creative way, e.g. a haiku, limerick, cartoon, infographic, short song, write an abstract using XKCD-inspired up-goer five, etc. Have your haiku or other creative item ready to share at the beginning of your presentation.
