Bavaneedha Loganathan, a self-taught and emerging independent filmmaker & producer, has made a remarkable impact on the global film stage. Her career has been marked by prestigious international engagements, including Berlinale Talents 2020, Film Independent’s Global Media Makers - LA Residency 2024, Asian Producers Network 2024, Busan Asian Film School 2023, NAFF Fantastic Film School 2023, Asia Pacific Screen Lab 2024, the Global Young Filmmaker Workshop at the London PSVI Film Festival 2018, West Meets East Dhaka Script Lab 2023 and 2024, Crescine Producer Workshop 2024, and Qalambaaz Script Lab 2023. She has been recognized with the Prince Claus Seed Award 2024 and is a member of the New Asian Producer Network (NAPNET).
Through these experiences, Bavaneedha has deepened her connection to cinema, using her work to explore the human experience and amplify women’s voices. As the first woman filmmaker from the underrepresented Plantation Tamil community, Bavaneedha stands out as a prominent BIPOC filmmaker in Sri Lanka. Her role as a pioneering woman in the industry, representing Sri Lanka on global platforms, underscores her significant influence on the new wave of Sri Lankan cinema.
Bavaneedha’s background includes producing over 1,000 TV shows and a transition from an agency producer and writer in advertising to filmmaking, where she produced 300 commercials and 30 corporate documentaries. She founded Big Eyes Cinemas, a production company dedicated to amplifying minority voices. Under her leadership, the company has secured several local and international grants, producing impactful films and comics.
Bavaneedha Loganathan is currently developing 8 feature films and working on co-productions between Sri Lanka, India, Canada, and France. Six of her films have participated in prestigious labs, with two winning development grants. she was awarded the Global Media Makers Community Grant for her "Big Eyes Talents" Short Film Lab 2024, which supports underprivileged community filmmakers. In addition to her film work, Bavaneedha is a National Award-winning TV host, graphic novel writer, and voice actress.
