I have several Ph.D. positions available!!

Please email me.

One Ph.D. position will focus on intra-cellular sensing during development. How well cells can or need to sense external signals is unclear. We want to elucidate, using models for specific gene regulation models and data from experimental colleagues, what sensing schemes can improve cellular decision-making in given realistic circumstances. This work will practically involve theoretical work (stochastic processes, statistical physics, information theory) as well as programming. A background in physics, mathematics, nanobiology or a related discipline, as well as a strong interest in biology, is desired.

One Ph.D. position will focus on specificity during covid. We want to quantify the efficiency with which the coronavirus can achieve replication and packaging. Practically, the project will involve theoretical work (statistical physics, nonlinear dynamics, and stochastic processes), programming, as well as close collaboration with experimental colleagues on upcoming coronavirus data. The project will be pursued in collaboration with experimental colleagues and will be part of the NWO-XL consortium Sars-CoV-2 (see flyer).

There are Master projects available.

I am currently looking for a MEP student joint with the BrinksLab (TU Delft) on: Information-theoretical analysis of neuronal activity

I am also currently looking for MEP students on the following topics:

  1. Information-theoretic optimization of joint sensing of morphogens in the fly

  2. Models for protein clustering

  3. Precision in self-assembly of viruses

  4. Stochastic simulations for DNA polymers.

MEP students should have an Applied Physics, Mathematics or Nanobiology background.

Feel free to reach out if you are interested, or if have an idea for a project that you would like to pursue yourself.
