The Second Persian War

This humiliation led the Persians to want to attempt to conquer the Greek city-states again in 480-479 BCE/BC.  This is called the Second Persian War.

King Darius was dead.  The invasion was led by Xerxes, Darius's son, who was now king of the Persian Empire.

After initial Persian victories, the Persians were eventually defeated, both at sea and on land.
