The Yin or Yang is one of the basic resources in Battle Realms. It is produced and earned when a battle transpires at some part of the map. The farther the battle happened, the faster the generation of the yin/yang. Thus, aggressive map movements are rewarded in the game. Also, yin/yang is used to upgrade units, strengthen the warriors, to purchase zen masters, or to cast a powerful magic spell.
Sentence Example: Vital points is an upgrade for the musketeers that requires two yin. It allows them to have more base damage.
Sentence Example: Herbalist is an upgrade of all wolf clan units' natural healing that require four yang. This allow them to heal faster than normal.
Rice is one of the basic resources in Battle Realms that a player should have. It is used to purchase basic infrastructures such as peasant hunts, watch towers, and combat infrastructures, as well as to train units. Aside from that, it is a requirement to buy zen masters.
Sentence Example: Rice can only be harvested by peasants.
Sentence Example: Rice collection can be more efficient if the peasant is provided with a horse.
Water goes hand in hand with rice. Just like the rice, it can only be harvested by peasants. Moreover, it is used to buy combat infrastructures, watch towers, zen masters. Other uses include watering scarce rice and pouring out fire of certain burning buildings.
Sentence Example: Collecting water is faster than harvesting rice.
Sentence Example: There are certain buildings or zen masters that do not require water in order to be bought.
Horses are one of the resources in Battle Realms. It is the most contested resource because of its limitation. Horses gives the player's units mobility, additional health, efficient rice and water collection, as well as Area of Effect (AOE) blunt damage to nearby enemies.
Sentence Example: Horses are kept in the stables in the Dragon, Serpent, and Lotus clans.
Sentence Example: In the Wolf clan, horses are kept in the wolves den in order to feed the welves, thereby taming them.
Horse capturing is important in battle realms, especially in the early stage of the game because it allows one clan to initiate an offensive maneuver in a swift fashion. The wolf clan is the exemption among the four clans because although their peasants also capture horses, they use them as food for their wolves instead as a resource for mounting and for harvesting rice and collecting water.
Sentence Example: Horse capture takes two attempts for an average peasant to undertake successfully.
Sentence Example: Each clan has a unique horse capture technique - the dragon and serpent clans use traditional methods of capturing the horse by making the horse interested of the peasant. The lotus clan on the other hand, use hypnosis. Lastly, he wolf clan use force in capturing horses (i.e. punching) to make the horse dizzy so as to feed it to the wolves.
Pack horse is a more efficient way of harvesting rice or collecting water because it allows the peasant to collect more resources at one instance. Its downside is the peasant's inability to run when on pack horse mode. The clans that can pack horse are the Dragon clan, Serpent Clan, and the Lotus Clan.
Sentence Example: The Wolf Clan is not capable of the pack horse because they feed the horse to the wolves in the wolves' den.
Sentence Example: Pack horse can maximize the increase of a player's resources because it enables the peasant to collect or harvest more rice or water at once.
Horse trampling is an offensive maneuver used to deal Area of Effect (AOE) blunt damage to nearby enemies. Units that can use horse trample are those that are combatants. Furthermore, the wolf clan is the only clan that does not have horse trample.
Sentence Example: Horse trampling is effective against the wolf clan's pack of wolves because of the instant AOE blunt damage it deals.
Sentence Example: Horse trampling is effective in the early stage of the game but is otherwise in the late game.
Battle gears are additional abilities that make units stronger, more useful, and more capable. Some battle gears are acquired through training, thereby necessitating rice and water consumption. In the Lotus clan, all three tier 2 units can acquire unique battle gears by consuming peasants. There are battle gears that can be exhausted when a unit's stamina is depleted or when it has a fixed number of uses. Others can be toggled.
Sentence Example: Grayback's battle gear is "wolf's howl", which exponentially increases his damage as well as his nearby allies.
Sentence Example: Kenji Oja's battle gear is "critical strike", which guarantees the doubling of his damage inflicted to his enemies.
Zen Masters are the heroes or champions of Battle Realms. They have unique backgrounds (slaves, warlords, monsters, etc.) as well as battle gears that can turn the tables of the game, so to speak. They are summoned at a cost of yin/yang, as well as rice and water. The player can only summon zen masters when a Keep is built. In other words, there are certain conditions that should be met in order to summon the Zen Masters.
Sentence Example: Zymeth is the leader of the Lotus clan and is one of its zen masters.
Sentence Example: Zen masters are summoned depending on the strategy of the player considering their strengths and weaknesses.
The chirping and flapping birds are indicators of a forest map/terrain that units (e.g. peasants, combatants, untamed horses) are passing by in the fog. When the units pass by the trees they perch on, the birds tend to make noises and fly away, thereby giving the player the notion that something is passing in the fog. The birds cannot be directly interacted by the player.
Sentence Example: The chirping and flapping birds are black and brown.
Sentence Example: Chirping and flapping birds are usually seen in the forests where trees are abudant.
Training is integral process in Battle Realms because this is how the player generate his/her army by training peasants into warriors, healers, and the like. Training requires rice, water, as well training infrastructures for a peasant to become a full-fledged combatant.
Sentence Example: Training peasants consumes time, rice, and water.
Sentence Example: Training can make a player's army stronger.
Raining in Battle Realms leads to a positive or negative consequence. It is positive in the sense that it helps the crops grow faster. However, it is negative, especially when playing against the Lotus clan because Zymeth, one of its Zen masters, has the ability to use the lighting as his destructive magical power, thereby dealing a high magical AOE damage to the opposing clan.
Sentence Example: Raining helps the peasants since it cultivates the rice.
Sentence Example: Raining becomes terrible when one is playing against the Lotus clan because of Zymeth's existence.
Buildings/infrastructures in Battle Realms are susceptible to fire. Putting down fire by using a peasant to fetch a bucket of water will reduce the damage incurred. However, in certain circumstances, putting out fire becomes difficult epsecially when the fire is scattered excessively.
Sentence Example: Putting out fire is one of the unique abilties that only a peasant can do.
Sentence Example: Putting out fire is easier when the access of water is situated nearby.
Building and repairing are the requirements of the game because the player cannot defend his/her own clan, let alone build a strong army without them. In order for peasants to become warriors, there is a need to build. And when these buildings are damaged because of the enemy, repairs are necessary in order to get its peak durability. Peasants are the only ones that can build and repair buildings.
Sentence Example: Building and repairing can only be done by peasants.
Sentence Example: Building requires rice and water, but repairing does not.
Watering rice is important because it helps the peasants to harvest more sacks of rice. Only the peasants are capable to undertake such task.
Sentence Example: Watering rice does not require a large number of peasants for the rice to grow efficiently.
Sentence Example: Watering rice can be done by fetching a bucket of water from a river, lake, or well.
Area of effect in Battle Realms refer to the radius or the vicinity of a certain battle gear. It can be offensive or defensive in nature. This include stuns, slow, magic burst, explosions, etc.
Sentence Example: Whirling spear is an area of effect strategy that is known to counter horses.
Sentence Example: Dark canopy is one of the most powerful defensive AOE spells of the Lotus clan as it renders its nearby units and allies immune from most ranged attacks.
Cutting is one of the damage types in Battle Realms that use weapons that cut. It is commonly seen when units belonging to a certain clan use swords, machetes, knives, etc.
Sentence Example: Samurai and ronin deal cutting damage.
Sentence Example: Cutting damage is ineffective against Grayback for he is resistant to it.
Piercing is a damage type in battle realms that entails weapons or projectiles that pierce through the bodies of enemies. It is seen when units have balista, crossbows, bow and arrow, etc.
Sentence Example: A ballista man deals heavy piercing damage even to higher tier units.
Sentence Example: An archer deals quick and strong piercing damage to enemies despite being a tier 1 unit.
Blunt is a damage type that has no penetrating edge or point. It is seen when units use sledge hammers, maces, fists, etc.
Sentence Example: Sledgers deal blunt damage, which is the reason why they are ideal for destroying buildings.
Sentence Example: A musketeer deals blunt damage when fighting at close quarters.
Magic is one of the deadliest damage types in Battle Realms because it deals massive damage, both to units and buildings. Aside from that, there are a number of powerful magical battle gears that cover a wide vicinity, making it ideal for large scale skirmishes.
Sentence Example: Master warlocks deal heavy magical damage, especially when they are equipped with the battle gear "soul thresher".
Sentence Example: Magic is abundant in the Lotus clan, which is the reason why they are very difficult to subdue in the late game.
